We recently connected with Beth and have shared our conversation below.
Beth , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My house burnt down in dec 2020, my family lost everything.
While we were trying to figure out what we wanted in our new house. It came down to countertops what I wanted and what I could afford was two different things altogether. Then we stumbled on a ad for epoxy countertops where you could do it your self so we did alot of watching of videos and decided I needed to do a class so I went to Texas to do a class from there I have done several friends and customers countertops. While I still haven’t been able to do my own as our builder. Has not finished our house even though he’s been paid. Hopefully I will be able to soon. So to relive the stress and self sooth I started doing functional epoxy art pieces. I refinished peoples tables., I make clocks, and Michigan art, I do wall art charcuterie boards etc. all done to keep me busy& not stressing and now I sell them on line at craft shows and in some stores.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I guess now I’m just trying to get my buisness out to more people. I want to do more countertops, but I like the art part of it too. I especially like adding new products that are out of the box. This week I am doing flower pots with different designs for Mothers day have whiskey glasses going for father’s day
My clocks I have selling at the Hopathekarey store at the jackson Mall. We are sponsoring a craft show on Dec 6,2025 in Brooklyn Mi to get more artist to be able to show there work to more people.
I am now starting doing epoxy workshops for up to 10 people at a time to learn how to make charcuterie board or a lazy susan
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My one quality is being able to sucker my husband in to building things for me.. my second is i don’t give up. My 3rd is you have to have a vision and you have to keep trying to go farther then that vision.
My advice for people who want to start in this is your going to make mistakes your going to learn from them and you have to make sure you set expectations with customers as this is a fluid art and you might have it planned out in your head but the art will keep moving and just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean someone else won’t
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
That is easy there has been three people that have done wonders for me.
1st is my husband Todd, he told me to take the time off work to follow my passion he said if its what you want go do it. I will be there to help in anyway you need. He is also the one to cut out most of the designs. He is there when I’m like I hate this piece and he will say well put it up for sale someone will like it and funny thing is they usually sell first.
2nd one is Rhonda Burkett Dracoulis she is the owner of rk3 designs Rhonda does the epoxy countertop classes and she goes above and beyond, if your stuck and need help whether it’s a text message,a phone call she always answers rather quickly
The 3rd person. Is Karyn Casto-Chrin @ the hopeakary store as she was the first person to tell me my stuff was awesome and asked if she could sell some of my items in her store.
