Meet Beth Blair

We were lucky to catch up with Beth Blair recently and have shared our conversation below.

Beth, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I wish I could say I was born with confidence and self-esteem. These are muscles that I developed by moving around as a child. I was always the new kid, so I had to master the art of making friends and “appearing” confident. True confidence and self-esteem are inside jobs. This wasn’t learned until much later. My continuing education in wellness and massage therapy gave me confidence and self-appreciation. It wasn’t until I took some advanced training that I became comfortable speaking with authority about anything in public. I found my roots, ground, confidence, and value through sharing knowledge. The master level of confidence and self-esteem came with my first art show. This felt like showing the public my underwear drawer. As I developed and owned my creative style, my confidence leveled up. It feels like a balance of confidence and self-esteem comes from self-awareness and self-expression. Too often, I looked to others for validation or feedback. Authentic confidence and self-esteem come from connecting to a personal purpose and understanding.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I was thinking of how best to describe what I do, and the words “Engery-smith” popped into my head, so I went with it. I have been a Reiki Master/Teacher for almost fifteen years. I am a Feng Shui Practitioner and an artist. I mentor, teach, and coach on all things Energy. I am a retired massage therapist and QiGong teacher. I let both of these go during Covid. Teaching Reiki is the one thing I picked back up from my closed wellness practice. Reiki is an Energy practice of self-discovery, first and foremost. Many look at it as a therapy for others, and it is, as well as so much more. It is something for the seeker of a spiritual path, self-development, personal healing, and helping others on their healing journey as well.

I think my love language is Energy. What I share most can be categorized into Person, Place or Thing. I already shared a little about Reiki, which I see as part of the “Person” category I’ve listed. Feng Shui addresses the “Place” category. I enjoy using a space to help bring about change. Having balance in a home or office brings peace and harmony, which is the essence of Feng Shui. If you want change, try moving 27 things and see what happens. I offer energy clearing, house blessings, and a full Feng Shui consultation. The beauty of Feng Shui is that it is a map for the client. They have to make the changes in the space, and they will discover the power for themselves.

The final Energy component is my art. I am an abstract painter, wire artist, and photographer. I use repurposed material in my 3-D art. My photographs come from my daily morning walks at sunrise. I am a moving meditation person. Sitting on a cushion is not my meditation practice. So, sunrise is my time with my dog before I do anything for another. It is peaceful, grounding, and healing. My painting and wire work are also intuitive and therapeutic. Art is a personal process first, and then it is shared. It offers the customers color, texture and movement. They can create their own story about what the piece means for them. My art has been commissioned with keepsakes or for specific intentions. Art is the second most healing tool, next to nature.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

If you had to pick three most important qualities to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three most important qualities to develop are your voice, authenticity, and a little tenacity. Your voice, even if it shakes, conveys the messages of your purpose and heart. You will gain confidence and find your feet in your power as you speak your truth. This leads right into the second quality of authenticity. There is no other person on the planet exactly like you with your purpose. You are the only one who will understand your purpose. It is up to you to share it with the world. You B You! The world needs it. Finally, you need a dash of tenacity. Take a risk, and speak up for yourself and your work. You may need to challenge an idea, cause, or person. Doing it from your heart with a bit of heat is ok. It shows passion with purpose.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?

I recommend following the heart/ gut partnership as a best practice. Having this dynamic duo in the driver’s seat has great power. You can always ask for help in the areas you aren’t strong. Where thoughts go, energy flows.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

Keep Going – The Art of Perseverance by Joseph M. Marshall III. It was a book that jumped off the shelf at the bookstore one day while I was on an errand for my mother, who was in cancer treatment. We read it together during her treatment. She then gifted it to many people who were in treatment themselves, and she gave me my own copy with the inscription, Dear Beth- One transition at a time, Love Mom 2011.” That in itself is a nugget of wisdom. The book motivates the reader to keep going with passages like, ” The weakest step toward the top of the hill, toward sunrise, toward hope, is stronger than the fiercest storm.”
