Meet Beth Holli

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Beth Holli. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Beth below.

Hi Beth , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

As a child I was told you can do anything you want to accomplish. Put your heart and soul into it and think positive and know you can do it. Having always lived with that advice and having accomplished many things in my life. Several college degrees, being a divorced mother who raised two loving boys and never missed a school event, went to nursing school and now re-emerging a singing career. Being taught it is all in the way you think about yourself. If you do not think you can do it no one else will either

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Funny thing is I have two careers simultaneously. They say every good country singer has more than one job or career. First when not working on my singing career I’m a maximum security prison nurse. I started my singing career when I was 4 years old. My dad was a producer and songwriter and put headphones on me and said sing what you hear. I did and that started my love for music. As time went on he would put me in talent shows or local TV programs and I enjoyed it. My parents never made me do anything. They always asked if I was interested. Choosing to give up my normal childhood to become a singer/performer and never wanting to wear a uniform and work like my friends did in fast food. My dad asked “what do you want to do?” I explained wanting to put a band together so we did and since I went to school with a girl whose dad owned a bar I started singing there. Now being underaged it was necessary to go in and out of the back door, sit in the kitchen and stay out of sight unless on stage. But it all worked that way. Then the opportunity came to have an audition for Opryland Amusement Park. Back in those days you did not have to show your ID, they just took you at your word. I filled out the paperwork and said I was 16 and was only 14. Did the audition, got the job and later got fired for being under age. Then Dottie West came into my life and asked why I was upset. I explained and she said if you really want to know what the road is like get on the bus and you can experience it. That is the only way to learn. Trust me there was a lot to learn and more than just getting on a bus and singing. Consult with managers about stage placement shape, songs you want at what time, lighting and sound, managing roadies etc. Now your hire people who specialize to do those detail things. They actually have college educations for those fields. The entertainment business is so detail you hire someone to do each and everything for you from driving you to dressing you and everything in between.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

LISTEN and READ!!! many different subjects. Become well versed by listening to others. Do not think you know everything in life because no one does. LISTEN to your elders and appreciate their knowledge. Then do your research and read as much as you can in your spare time. Which in this day and time is rare. But if you make time you can never go wrong.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

Self belief, self determination and most importantly self worth. Know your value and what you bring to the table. Never allow anyone to underestimate what you can accomplish and never allow yourself to doubt what you can accomplish. It is amazing what you can do when you are dedicated and have self determination.
