We recently connected with Beth Kaufman and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Beth, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I am old school, I grew up in a time that if you said you were going to do something, you did it! My father instilled two words in me during my bowling days as a kid which I have applied to the rest of my life, which are, follow through “ I see everything to the finish whether I am in the mood, or not. Because of this, people build trust in you and your business.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am happy to let you know that on March 21st, we celebrated our three year anniversary! What started out as a “hobby”, has bloomed into a full time business! We have gone from making mason jars full of flowers to booking weddings. We do flower workshops all over and have moved into Baltimore as a second home base. We have stands in Baltimore and we are now on Doordash in Baltimore as well as Annapolis. We also work with several hospital foundations for their events.
While I am creative in mind, my daughter Danie brings it to life!
I am more on the business end of things while she creates not only the arrangements but the smiles on peoples faces. This is what makes a great mother/daughter duo!
As we continue to bloom, we will be looking to expand our services to other cities in the near future.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
While we knew very little about the flower business, flower farms, and how to go about doing it, there were many that did. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, small business owners are always willing to help you. We really are one big family. Also, personally, YouTube has become a very good friend of mine! Trial and error will apply here, and you will fail along the way, and this is okay as well as learning experiences.
One thing I have learned from my daughter Danie is, take a step back, do a bit of research before plunging in.
This is great advice for anyone just starting out.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
We are always looking for people to collaborate with. Coffee shops, independent boutiques where we can set up a pop up or do a workshop. We also love apartment buildings where the residents have planned events set up by management. We love to be involved in community events and donate to charities.
We are open to collaborating about picnics, anniversaries and birthday milestones.
