Meet Betty Schram

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Betty Schram. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Betty, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

When I was growing up, my parents were self-employed, as were their respective sets of parents before them. Especially when you are at the beginning stages of your business’ development, not only are you the CEO, you often also function as the top down to bottom up design, production, execution, and every other cog that functions to make those wheels of industry spin. I come from a place that honors and values the privilege to be capable of and have the opportunity to invest in yourself, others, and a greater picture by way of your work ethic. It all begins and ends with mindset. Everything does, really.
.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I live in both the realms of the arts and sciences as an actress, model, and allied health professional. For today’s conversation, I’m leaning into the arts aspect.

I’ve had the privilege to work with so many incredibly talented individuals on set and remote locations shooting fashion, adventure, editorials, etc. I have curated some of the dearest friends in my colleagues. I love getting to see them lean into their respective crafts with their own work ethics- we have produced work we are all proud of, and for which have worked very hard.

My better half and I recently filmed a short film together while traveling over the holidays. I had the best time getting to work and be creative with the one I love. It is in post production now, but I’ve been replaying the blooper reel he put together, and laugh a lot harder than I’m told is reasonable. At one point during filming, he had to carry me off set due to some mountain-snow-induced-near frostbite, but the whole way to safety, I was protesting I could finish the shot. (Work ethic doesn’t necessarily go hand in hand with self preservation, thankfully we’d already gotten the footage we needed, and my flesh was preserved to fight another day.)

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

A strong work ethic is vital. Knowing how to apply yourself is an acquired skill best honed frequently, but that mindset is paramount.

Humility sets leaders apart from people who happen to be in charge. The true “bosses of industry” are the people who will roll up their sleeves and dig into the project with all their own effort they expect from their team. I’ve learned there are those “doing it” and those “talking about it” and I have been taught by the most and highly respect the people I’ve worked with who were never “above” doing the hard work themselves.

I can’t undersell the value of being teachable, in combination with a strong work ethic and the humility to use it wisely, The day you have nothing left to learn is the day your intellect and capability to grow sign off permanently. In that regard, I hope to never reach my prime…get dangerously close, absolutely, but never to that final sign off! Growth always. Forward only.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I’m always interested in learning about modeling and acting opportunities, and meeting creatives looking to collaborate! I can be reached via the contacts listed at the conclusion of this interview.
