We were lucky to catch up with Bianca Guess recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bianca, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Motherhood brought me purpose. I thought I knew what it meant for things to be bigger than me before becoming a mother but motherhood reinforced that notion.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor. I have been blessed to do many things because of my chosen career path including running my own fitness business, running a college recreation fitness department and coaching youth sports. I love the work that I do because I have the ability to reach so many different types of people. Coaching youth sports keeps me connected to my daughter and her peers, running the college recreational department keeps me connected to the young adults and working professionals, and running my own business allows me the opportunity to meet and work with clients who’d I may never meet otherwise.
I am a life changer! I say that in the most sincere way. I have the ability to help people set goals, work through the challenges, and accomplish their dreams. I build relationships, I help people see the potential in themselves . Working alongside people, watching them work and do things they never imagined they could do, provides an unexplainable feeling.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Determination has probably gotten me the furthest in life. When I make the decision to do something, no matter how hard it is or how long it takes me I will continue to work until the goal is accomplished. As I’ve grown I also believe resilience has been a huge factor in my journey. Nothing in my adult life has gone according to plan. Every aspect of adulthood has been much more challenging than I’d ever anticipated from motherhood, to marriage, to my career. However, that determination, resilience and eventually the belief that all things come when they are destined to has allowed me to continue to work and believe in myself.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was believe in me. When they saw a glimpse of interest or focus they gave me the support and the resources to improve no matter what it was. Having the support throughout my life from the people who loved me the most made me believe anything was possible. When challenges arose, they were always there to pick me up and help guide me on my way.
