Meet Big Mood Records

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Big Mood Records. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Big Mood Records below.

Hi Big Mood Records, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

By combining our passion for analog music (vinyl & cassette tapes) along with graphic design & photography, our complementary skills.

We decided to translate this vision by creating a music label providing tangible, physical experience of music we enjoy.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Big Mood Records is a music label founded by Dorentina (a.k.a 6mangoes) and Alex (a.k.a Blaster B). As two passionate of music we enjoy digging records that we share with each other.

From R&B to Funk and Hip-Hop, our love for music always drove us to create projects in photography for Dorentina and graphic design & DJing for Alex. From there, we naturally started to unite our complementary skills and our creativity to create a label from the need to release physical music (records and cassettes tapes) that we would love to listen and buy as collectors.

Our journey found purpose when we both wanted to do more work related to music. We are excited by the whole process from creating art works and collaborating with artists.

What’s special about Big Mood Records is the focus on underground artists and on releasing physical music only, with a special care on storytelling.

Quality being one of our priorities, we release our projects in limited series to create collectibles objects.

After four mixtapes and two successful vinyl releases we plan on making a new Hip-Hop cassette and 7’’ this year.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Our curiosity for music and formats was a good start for our record label. We both have multiple experiences in creative fields that allow us to overcome challenges and find solutions to translate our visions.

An advice we give to ourselves and would give people reading this would be not to compare (y)ourselves with majors and stay indulgent with our own pace. Quality over quantity and speed. Stay patient and consistent.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

Our local record stores have been our biggest supporters from answering our questions, giving us advices and selling our records.

Artists, DJs, vinyl collectors who’d share their experiences with us definitely helped. Overall our discussion around music always makes us grow.
