Meet Big Myles

We were lucky to catch up with Big Myles recently and have shared our conversation below.

Big Myles, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

If anyone tells you in your face that they had a cake walk to success, you better duck quick for their Pinocchio nose might poke your eye out. It is in the dark times, the empty pockets, the gas tank on E, the talking to yourself, practicing and creating alone in the room, displaying your talents and finished products for no one to see, is the making of Big Myles. Most will think when they touchdown to success, their landing paradise. Even though it’s difficult when going through it, I really do enjoy “the come up” period. It is in those times where I truly get to see the heart and not the face. These are the people you should build your foundation around. When you become successful, everyone laughs at your jokes with their hands out, but the setbacks and hardship times should have built a force field around you to detect the real from fake. As long as it took for you to reach success, being around the wrong things can have you back in the dark room in a New York minute. Failure is just a part of the journey, don’t give up. Success comes at different times for others, just stay on your path and always be able to find yourself in the mirror. Hold on to those who truly love you and who has stuck with you through thick and thin. There will be more snakes, hater, and vultures in the realm of success, then when you’re in the room by yourself.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a self-taught producer. I create, write, shoot, and edit creative comedy videos that will put a smile on your face. I display original content ranging all over the place. Not being professionally thought, gives me an edge to form my content in its own unique way before the mainstream takes over.
Soon I will be hosting a podcast (Clowning Down South) that will coincide with the videos. Displaying my personality, speaking on current events, sports, and funny personal experiences that has happen in my life. Think of a radio show, daytime talk show all in one.
Watch out for Clowning Down South t-shirts along with the podcast, it will be my brand shirt to support the movement.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Awareness of the times. While being yourself and coming up with ideas that you might think are great, you still need to at times have it relate to current events of the day. Don’t look dated all the time if that’s not your niche. If it’s not working move on to the next.
No matter how much notoriety and success you get, you should always find ways to get better. There will always be someone who will come and do what you do. Maybe better, maybe not, but if you keep beating at your craft and stay true to self, they will never be able to touch what you do. The minute you stop working, they will catch up,
Speaking of catching up and taking spots, watch someone in the same field as you that already has reach success. See what they have done to succeed, then add your own unique flavor to make it bigger and better.
The with anything you do, you should never give up, especially in today’s world, you never know what will “go viral”

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?

Being well rounded & improving in areas that you are not strong in will go a long way. Look at what you do as a company. If you just key in on your strengths, you’re going to have to rely on others for what you are not strong in. That might cost you money and time. If you are wondering why something isn’t going right, it could be an area that you’re not strong in that is lacking. I started off with little money, so I had to master all the jobs myself. I have seen the benefits in doing so. Now when I bring someone in to do their part, I will know whether they are pulling their weight. A company always succeeds when the boss knows every part of the job that needs to be done.
