Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Billy Grubbs Ii. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Billy, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Unveiling Strength Through Vulnerability

In the shadow of a strict upbringing, where emotions were seen as a sign of weakness, my journey towards self-discovery has been a transformative quest to redefine what it means to be strong. This chapter delves into the pivotal processes of emotional liberation, mindset change, and the crucial establishment of boundaries—each step fostering a deeper connection to my true self and leading to a life of authenticity and freedom.

**Unmasking the Past**

From a young age, I was indoctrinated with the belief that “REAL MEN DON’T CRY or show emotion.” This doctrine permeated my relationships, leading to a life where emotional suppression was the norm and vulnerability was the enemy. As I navigated through shallow connections and unfulfilling interactions, the facade of toughness began to wear thin, revealing the profound loneliness and disconnection beneath.

**The Catalyst for Change**

The discomfort of living inauthentically deepened with each passing day, culminating in a soul-deep yearning for transformation. The phrase, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear,” rang true when I met my mentor, Garrain Jones. His vulnerability and openness in a mutual business venture inspired a profound shift in me. He challenged me to look beyond my conditioned beliefs and explore my “Why” and “Purpose,” which I identified as Freedom. This realization was the first step toward dismantling the walls I had built around my heart.

**Embracing a New Path**

With newfound clarity, I committed to three transformative steps:

1. **Emotional Liberation:** I engaged in therapy and attended seminars that helped me unpack emotional baggage and foster self-acceptance. This step was crucial for breaking free from past traumas and moving beyond feelings of powerlessness, allowing me to practice self-compassion and forgive myself.

2. **Mindset Change:** Adopting the mantra “Change your mindset, change your life,” I took full ownership of my actions and circumstances. This shift involved challenging my limiting beliefs and embracing uncertainty, which cultivated a growth-oriented mindset that views challenges as opportunities for personal discovery.

3. **Setting Boundaries and Building Community:** I learned the importance of setting healthy boundaries and nurturing a supportive community. Implementing routines focused on health and practicing assertive and respectful communication helped conserve my energy and improve interpersonal interactions. Surrounding myself with like-minded individuals who inspire and support my journey was instrumental in my ongoing growth and resilience.

**In the End**

This transformative journey of confronting past conditioning and embracing a new way of being has redefined my understanding of strength. To any man walking a similar path, remember that each step towards emotional liberation, a shifted mindset, and set boundaries is a step towards a fuller, freer existence. Embrace each challenge as an opportunity for growth and continue to push the boundaries of what it means to be strong. Your commitment to this journey is not just about personal betterment but about redefining strength for generations of men to come. Embrace this journey with courage, and let each milestone remind you of the greatness within. You are not alone, and you are undoubtedly capable of remarkable change. Keep forging ahead; your best self awaits.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Emotional Intelligence (EQ): This is crucial for understanding and managing your own emotions and the emotions of others. Developing emotional intelligence enables you to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics effectively, empathize with others, and communicate more constructively. It is foundational in the process of emotional liberation, as it allows you to unpack emotional baggage and foster self-acceptance, leading to deeper connections with others and a more authentic life.

2. Resilience: The ability to recover from setbacks, adapt to change, and keep going in the face of adversity is essential. My journey/Story highlights the importance of resilience in overcoming ingrained beliefs and behaviors that were holding me back from truly becoming the best version of myself. This quality is vital for navigating the ups and downs of personal transformation, particularly when challenging deeply held views and facing the discomfort that comes with significant change.

3. Self-awareness and Continuous Learning: My story emphasizes the importance of self-awareness in recognizing and confronting personal limitations and blind spots. Coupled with a commitment to continuous learning through therapy, seminars, and self-exploration. This area of knowledge is critical for anyone looking to redefine their identity and purpose. It supports mindset changes and helps cultivate a lifestyle that aligns with one’s values and aspirations.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

The past year has been a period of significant transformation for me. I came to understand that everything meant for me was already within reach; I simply had to be willing to open the door. In the process of building my brand and planning my next steps, I found myself drifting away from the daily practices that nurtured a healthy body and mindset. What became clear was that I was missing a sense of community—a tribe, mentorship, and accountability. I needed to stay engaged with active, committed individuals and avoid the trap of excuses.

I participated in a weekend seminar led by my mentor, Garrain Jones, and his Artist Power Collective, where I reconnected with my artistic needs and my inner child’s desires. It was here that I realized the importance of finding a church community where I felt at home. The seminar highlighted that I had been placing too much pressure on myself without seeking enough support. I also confronted a fear of success that had been holding me back.

Additionally, I enrolled in Garrain’s leadership program, which allowed me to redefine my coaching business, build my brand, and devise a more effective launch strategy. Previously, my work had spread only through word-of-mouth and referrals, which meant I often hid my talents unless I was supporting someone else’s project or responding to a direct opportunity. During the retreat that concluded the program, I gained insights into what I truly need from myself and how I wish to serve the world.
