We were lucky to catch up with Billy Yamaguchi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Billy, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
I am diligent about my daily work outs. I focus also on: family time; meditation; mantras; clean eating; staying hydrated; dates with my wife; going to the ocean, galleries and museums for inspiration; staying in touch with my mentors; polishing my skills; traveling with my family; protecting my finances.
I have taken a full investment in my life – in all that encompasses my life. This daily dedication fuels my ability to give 100%.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Since the beginning of my career, I have been surrounded by some of the best mentors and professionals in the beauty business on a global level. I developed and founded Feng Shui Beauty which includes an educational program, techniques and hair products. My love for hair has been one of my greatest passions and I feel honored each time a client trusts me with his or her hair. One of my newest projects has been my online store: YamaguchiLifestyle.com. My children, Seiji and Nobu, keep me informed about social media and technology. I am forever a student.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. My “never say die” attitude that I’ve had since school age. It helped me in the European all-star basketball and continues to motivate me to this day.
2. My curiosity- I am a forever student and see opportunity for growth in everything.
3. My dyslexia forced me to look beyond what most people see.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My wife, Melissa. Melissa is a Feng Shui practitioner and has educated me on the beauty of the practice. I was able to incorporate the practice into my work so easily and readily. She has believed in me from Day One.
