We were lucky to catch up with Bina Maracchini recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bina, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
It is a difficult task to keep my creativity alive, especially when it comes to financial freedom as an artist. With all the challenges that I faced, it made me learn how to balance my creativity with situations that occur unwillingly.
Or works that aren’t creative enough, and I turn it on creatively. I find it very healthy for a creative person to create from deep inside their soul because it is what keeps creativity going.
Things that I do to keep my creativity alive
1- I listen to myself deeply, I mean really deep, and I feel in my soul what it says to me, especially everything I create is from within.
2- I take a break from creating when I feel I am under pressure of any kind. And I take a look at everything I created from previous years which motivates and inspires me. How far have I gone?
3- I make everything in my life creative.
4- I learned to be realistic about the surrounding changes which can influence my creativity
5- I stay focused on what I can do creatively
6- I make sure I am honest with myself about everything
7- I make sure everything I do in my life I love it and is from the heart.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a passionate designer of clothes, and I create art objects from textiles as well. During my childhood I often played with dolls and made clothes for them. I remember I grew up wanting to be a designer. I was so inspired by fashion magazines and runway shows. My beloved mother was my first inspiration because she’s tall and beautiful and always dressed so elegantly. When I used to go to school, I often sketched on my notes till high school I knew that I was going to go to design school.
I didn’t know that this passion within me would grow into such a magical journey of creativity. Through it, there is self-discovery, self-development, self-love, self-confidence, self-awareness, openness of my heart, my soul and openness of all of me to the world and what surrounds it. All the challenges I have faced since I started my brand in 2011, made me value my creativity and fight for what I believe in and what I love most.
My brand is truly about expressing one’s creativity freely. Creating clothes for those who love to be free, Bina Maracchini clothing line generally consists of handmade t-shirts and sweaters which are painted by hand with unique patterns, elements and colors, and evening dresses that are feminine and elegant. The brand also produces underground clothing famous for its dark fashion. I also use embroidery in my clothing line. All Bina Maracchini designs are notorious for their feminized styling, natural textiles and comforts.
Recently, I have moved back to Africa after being away since my childhood. I seek to learn more about my culture and learn about textile patterns and textures and see how my brand will be influenced by the culture and natue for my upcoming coming collection. I produce a limited edition collection and each item is produced in a single copy.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
First, believe in yourself and your dreams, no matter how challenging the journey. By believing in yourself, anything is possible.
Second, determination, be determined and consistent with what you do in life, but also learn to take a break when needed, and it is always okay to accept failure, because it is how one develops the next step to a better process, a better process only the person he or she knows the process is better.
Thirdly, listen to your inner voice | Intuition |

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
It is very helpful for me to be able to communicate with my loved ones, especially parents and also close friends, when I get off track with work or life. And actually, sometimes it isn’t about success, because I believe success is being misunderstood somehow. But it is about having the balance to accept the challenge which allows me to grow. Of course, during the challenge, I don’t understand that it is for my growth, only after I passed it and, look back, then, I understand it was for my own good. Talking with those I trust and value, it helps to not be hard on myself.
Especially in creativity, I reach out to people who have similar values and beliefs, which helps as well. An example is Dariia Migalova and few more of creative people I appreciate and admire.
