We recently connected with Birgit Sas-sundquest and have shared our conversation below.
Birgit, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
Everybody has good and bad periods in their life. But it is never so dark that it won’t become light again. We all know the feeling of despair, thinking it will never get better. But if you just keep on breathing slowly but surely it will get better again. And then you look back on a period that was dark, but it also has thought you a lot.
I always look at things from the bright side of life. Set backs and sad things are part of our lives and the sooner we accept that, the sooner other positive things shine through.
Not every day is good, but there is something good in everyday!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Empress of Heels is for women who love high heels, but don’t want to hurt animals and the planet for their fashion choices. Our high heels are handcrafted in Poland, using sustainable vegan apple leather for the upper and a moist absorbing liner made from corn fiber and recycled plastic bottles.
Our heels have an excellent fit and a flexible outsole, making them very comfortable to wear. At the moment our heels come in 4 colors and 3 different heel heights. But we are working hard to add models and colors to our collection.
Empress of Heels supports the Gouves Animal Shelter on the island of Crete. Because we strongly believe in giving back. Animals suffer so much because of us humans, it’s only logical to help and ease the suffering a bit.
We cannot change the world for all animals, but for some animals we can change their world.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I started this journey knowing nothing about social media and only the very basics about shoe making. But I love shoes and specifically high heels and always wanted to have my own brand. This lack of knowledge meant that I had to learn a lot. Luckily I love learning!
So now I have acquired new knowledge about shoe making and improved my social media skills.
But I think the most important thing is to know where your limits are and asking/hiring skilled people in the area that you lack skill. You still need to understand the basics, but let professionals do the things they are good at so you can excel in other parts.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We are looking for companies that want to work together, maybe add our collection to their stores or do a collaborative on a photoshoot.
If the readers of Voyage Bold have other ideas for a collaborative, please reach out. We are always open to talk.
