Meet Bito Sureiya

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bito Sureiya a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Bito , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Lol I don’t, so with music I just wade through all the BS until I burn out and feel like quitting. Then I have a lor anime pep talk, I don’t quit and then I inevitably create something that ppl will complement me on so that I feel validated enough to continue the cycle. This last time I ain’t do the “talk no jutsu” and I’ve just been using my creative energy in other ways. So essentially f#€k rap! we getting this embroidery money.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
So I am a professional musician/embroiderer I have my own custom embroidery business and I’ve been part of the local Baltimore music scene for about 10 years now. I’m going to be completely honest it’s not much exciting about either one of these professions, musician used to be a little cool I guess but this hip-hop shit is trash af rn I might as well be on strike frfr. Like I said, I’m just trying to find other ways to apply my creative energy. We’re going to be a part of this Artscape fashion show that’s happening this September on the 23rd, It’s going to be our first fashion show. It’s the first time I’ve designed any clothing outside of just regular streetwear. But… the embroidery is open for business 24/7, and since we’re a shop that specializes in small orders we’re a local business or artists best friend. Whatever wild design or idea you have we can create and we’re not gonna make you make like 500 of them.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Soooooo I try not to look back at my past because the past causes me pain on some Sasuke shit. So, to keep it a bean with you the only advice I have for y’all is to find something cheap to play with. Don’t be out here trying to break the bank and make sure it make sense. Other than that do what you want who cares I’m not your mom.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Whoooooo Ok, so there is a series of books technically Manga called “Berserk” and it is quite possibly one of the greatest stories ever told. Since the first time I read it, it’s made huge impacts on the way that I view people, life, and choices. The main character has honestly been born into some of the most unfair circumstances to ever be bequeath upon a human ever, and still he rises on some Maya Angelou shit. One of my favorite quotes from guts is “I never asked for a miracle; I’ll get things done myself.” And lowkey that’s how I’m coming all 2023.
