We recently connected with Black Ceasar Poetry and have shared our conversation below.
Black Ceasar Poetry, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I am born in Jackson, Mississippi, a place where if you are not grounded in your faith in rooted in resilience, you’ll flounder. At a young age, I was fortunate to experience adversity, firsthand, as well as through my peers. This was something that both devastated and motivated me to do better, and be better, so that I will not have to suffer similar circumstances. I do believe without adversity there could be no true success so with that being said, I am grateful for the shortcomings I experienced as a youth, and in my young adulthood to prepare me for the blessings I have received today. Also, I would a credit and my parents for showing me what hard work and diligence looks like even in times of struggle.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Over the past three years, I have experienced some amazing success. I created it to my creator and Savior Jesus Christ for Utilizing me as a vessel. I received a Emmy nomination after creating a Poetic visual named change with the Dallas Cowboys, and was fortunate enough to perform at their two most recent Juneteenth events commemorating the celebration of the national holiday. Working with the Cowboys has been truly a blessing, as they are a very diverse organization, focused on uplifting local artist. As a testament to that I was contacted by the Texas Rangers and I have three published works with a major league team, which was truly crazy to me at the time. I was not sure how the baseball world would receive poetry, but the people welcomed me with open arms. Being able to put Poetry in a new stratosphere is both humbling and motivating because I want to do more for the art as well as the artist I hope to empower. My business partners and I recently started an open mic that has been thriving for the past two years in the deep Ellum area, Spitfire Poetry presents RNB Only each and every Wednesday night, allowing Artist to come and showcase their talents. The community has been growing at an exponential rate and having a small part in that confirms to me what we are doing is working. With all of the success in the Poetry world, I am looking to expand into acting, so that I may utilize my talents on stage, and the emotion, a harness to excel in the entertainment industry. Ultimately, I am just so thankful that my journey has been a testament of all the work my team, and I have put into this. Inspiring others to do the same as always been the main goal. The people should be looking out for my new book and poetry album to be releasing at the end of the summer. I truly hope it is received with love and grace.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When I think about my poetry journey, a major factor for me was support or lack of support. I was so focused on the people who are not supporting me the ones who were not receiving proper reciprocation. It is imperative that we focus on the people who love us and pour back into the community that supports you. Another major factor in my early journey was lack of mentorship. I had to seek someone else that has already walked this path so that I do not make the same mistakes they did. We as people tend to get beside ourselves and fillers if we do not need help that is absolutely wrong seeking mentorship Will always aide you in any journey. Lastly, I had to truly believe in myself more than anyone else could ever fathom. There is a balance between arrogance and confidence you as an artist have to straddle that line in order to truly excel. I do hope that Artist out there are building good relationships, and doing good business. That will take you further than anything else in the business world.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
I feel that the last 12 months, I have truly focused on empowering the artist in my community as well as achieving what seems to be unattainable goals for a poet. Uplifting artist, allowing them to make a name for themselves in the entertainment world is the ultimate gift seeing the growth as well as their natural Ascension Is more than rewarding. There are some very amazing and hungry artist in the Dallas Texas area. People should be on the lookout, for I’m just grateful to play a small part and directing their early journeys. The personal goals I have set for myself, are becoming reality more and more by the day, just being in a space to transcend the arts, or be considered a trailblazer is the ultimate compliment.
