Meet Bläk Walters

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bläk Walters. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bläk below.

Bläk , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I think my resilience comes from the people who have shaped me most, especially my mom, dad, sister, and granny. They’ve always shown me what it means to stay grounded, work hard, and keep going even when things get tough. Over time, I’ve realized that every challenge I’ve faced has made me stronger and more confident in who I am and what I’m capable of.

Building my photography business has truly changed my life. It’s taught me so much about perseverance, growth, and believing in myself even when things feel uncertain. I’ve been surrounded by the most incredible support system through it all, from my family and friends to my community and the amazing vendors I’ve had the chance to work alongside. Their encouragement reminds me every day why I love what I do and inspires me to keep showing up with purpose and heart.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a wedding photographer based in Orlando, and this work has become one of the most meaningful parts of my life. I’ve always been a sentimental person who loves legacy, history, and holding onto moments that tell a story. The passion for photography has always been there, but losing my dad made me realize just how important it is to have those moments forever. The photos and videos we have of him mean so much to my family. They bring us back to the love and laughter we shared, and that feeling is something I’ll always treasure!

That’s what drives me in my work. I want my couples to feel that same warmth when they look at their photos, to see more than just an image but a story that feels alive every time they revisit it! My goal is to capture the emotion, the quiet moments, and the joy that will mean even more as the years go by.

One of my favorite parts of what I do is the relationships that form along the way! My clients often become friends, and I love staying connected with them long after their wedding day. Getting to capture their anniversaries, growing families, and all the milestones that follow is something I’ll never take for granted!

Photography has changed my life in every way! It’s more than a creative career for me. It’s a way to preserve love, legacy, and connection, the things that matter most.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I think the three qualities that have had the biggest impact on my journey are perseverance, genuine connection, and a willingness to always keep learning.

Perseverance has been everything. Building a business takes time, and there were seasons when things felt uncertain. Learning to stay consistent, even when the results weren’t immediate, made all the difference. For anyone just starting out, my advice is to keep showing up. Growth often happens quietly behind the scenes long before it becomes visible.

The second is connection. Photography, especially wedding photography, is built on trust and relationships. My business really started to grow when I began focusing on the people rather than the portfolio. Take time to get to know your clients, care about their story, and serve them well. When your heart is in it for the right reasons, people feel that.

The third is curiosity and a love for learning. There is always something new to discover, whether it’s about business, artistry, or yourself. I’ve learned to see every challenge as an opportunity to improve. My advice for anyone starting out is to stay humble and curious. Ask questions, seek guidance, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Every step teaches you something valuable and helps you grow into the creative and person you are meant to be.

One of the best things I have done in my business, and continue to do now, is work with mentors I trust who pour into me. I also take time to learn from friends in the industry and from the people around me. Being surrounded by others who inspire, challenge, and support me has made such a difference in both my growth and my confidence.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

One book that played a really meaningful role in my growth is The Go-Giver. It shifted the way I think about work, purpose, and what it means to show up for people. A few of the biggest takeaways for me were:

1. Success flows from giving, not getting.
The book shares the idea that leading with generosity and value creates the most fulfilling kind of success. It helped me see that when your focus is on serving well, everything else tends to follow.

2. Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.
This reminded me that the heart behind what you offer matters just as much as the thing you are offering. Creating an experience where people feel cared for and genuinely supported is what builds real trust.

3. Your influence grows when you genuinely put other people’s interests first.
Not in a way that drains you, but in a way rooted in intention and empathy. People can feel the difference when your focus is on serving rather than impressing.

4. The most valuable gift you can offer is yourself.
Your presence, authenticity, and heart are things no one else can duplicate. The book encouraged me to lean into who I truly am rather than who I think I should be.
