Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Blanca Plata. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Blanca, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?
“In art school, I learned that inspiration often arrives when you’re already immersed in your work. The idea that ‘waiting for inspiration’ is just an excuse for not working stuck with me. I believe that excellence comes from dedication and constant effort. So, when inspiration strikes, you need to be ready and working, allowing creativity to flow naturally.”
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
“I knew I wanted to be a fine artist since I was five, mesmerized by a painting on a TV show. Over the years, I’ve worked hard to perfect my craft, and now I’m showcasing my work at the International Art Fair in France, which feels like the pinnacle of my career. I’m excited for this moment and hopeful for even greater heights ahead.”
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
“Three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are passion, dedication, and an analytical approach. I have always been passionate about art, which kept me engaged. My dedication to practicing and perfecting my techniques played a huge role. Additionally, I constantly analyze my work to improve. For those starting their journey, I’d advise focusing on what you love, dedicating time to it, and continuously refining your skills.”
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
I struggled in school because my true interest was always art. My parents supported me by arranging a tutor for my regular subjects and placing me in an art school early on. They focused on my strength, even though they had doubts about art as a career. Ultimately, they accepted that art was my calling.
