Meet Blaque Queen

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Blaque Queen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Blaque below.

Hi Blaque, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

Resilience is a day-by-day process. My mother mentally and physically abused me as a child. In adulthood, the abuse continued, but this time in front of my child. From fighting me in front of him to belittling me as if I weren’t his mother, the pain was relentless. In 2016, I secretly left her house in fear of another confrontation. It was only later that I learned I was a victim of narcissistic abuse.

Since then, I’ve struggled with imposter syndrome and feelings of not being good enough to succeed. I thought leaving the situation would be enough, but I realized there was still more healing to be done. Sometimes, I wonder if my resilience is just a trauma response. My mother always expected me to bounce back from anything. Now, living on my own, I’ve learned that my life is mine to live and that it’s okay to fail sometimes.

I have been diagnosed with ADHD, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Self-love and care are vital to remind myself that I am worthy. I practice various meditation techniques and nurture my inner child daily. I’ve chosen to stay unmedicated because I want to be fully present, even during the hard times. Therapy, my husband, and my friends help lift me when feeling down. Having a strong support system is so important. Remember, you don’t have to go through things alone.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a wire wrap jewelry artist and singer, passionate about creating intricate designs that evoke the flow of life and nature. My jewelry has been featured in the “Tiny but Mighty” exhibition at the VB Art Center in Virginia Beach, which was a proud moment for me.

My latest and greatest EP, “Unapologetically Blaque,” is a true reflection of my life and everything I’ve been through. It showcases both the gritty and uplifting sides of my journey. Available on all streaming platforms, I hope my music and jewelry inspire people to heal and become better versions of themselves.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are resilience, creativity, and self-awareness.

-Resilience: This quality helped me bounce back from difficult situations and continue moving forward, even when things were tough. It’s important to remember that setbacks are a part of life, and having the strength to get up and try again is crucial.

-Creativity: As a wire wrap jewelry artist and singer, creativity has been at the heart of my work. It allows me to express my emotions, tell my story, and connect with others. Embracing your creative side can lead to unique and fulfilling experiences.

-Self-Awareness: Understanding myself, my strengths, and my weaknesses has been vital. It has allowed me to navigate challenges more effectively and make decisions that align with my values and goals.

Advice for Those Early in Their Journey:

-Learn When to Act: Take the time to evaluate situations before jumping into action. This can help you avoid unnecessary mistakes and make more informed decisions.

-Cultivate a Positive Mindset: Practice seeing the good in every situation and believe that things will get better. This optimism can be a powerful motivator and help you stay resilient through tough times.

-Seize Opportunities: Be ready to take advantage of new opportunities as they come. Embrace change and be willing to step out of your comfort zone, as this can lead to significant growth and success.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

The greatest challenge I’ve overcome in the past 12 months has been taking my work more seriously and standing up for myself—finding my voice. Walking away from my mother and taking control of my life was a pivotal moment. I confronted her and expressed my feelings. This step was crucial in reclaiming my power and setting boundaries.

Additionally, I’ve been stepping out more in my community and learning to accept myself, flaws and all. Embracing my true self has been a significant area of growth. I’ve realized that it’s not the end of the world to have imperfections; it’s a part of being human. This acceptance has allowed me to connect more deeply with others and continue growing personally and professionally.
