Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bo Harris. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Bo , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my father, and he gets it from his father my grandfather. My grandfather had his own business, which was brick masonry. My father, who is a career educator, has started his own business as well, after retiring as a school superintendent. They have instilled a strong work ethic in me by being an example as well as providing great advice and direction. My father always made sure I finished what I started and no matter what I gave it my all and my grandfather always told me if you enjoy what you’re doing and getting paid it doesn’t feel as much like work! My father is and has always been my superhero/role model!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Bo Harris. I’m the owner and operator of Visual Access Photography LLC as well as Visual Access Studios. I’ve had a passion for photography since my early years starting out with a Kodak disc camera and disposable film cameras. I know I’m dating myself with that statement! Lol! Yes, I started out in the film days. I still have my Pentax K 1000. Once going to college, I got away from Photography for a bit and then there was a change from the film to the digital era. I was gifted a Sony Cyber-shot, which was my first digital camera, and that got my juices flowing again.. I found myself in situations where I could’ve taken better pictures had I had a more professional camera and I remember asking my dad for one for Christmas. During this time I was working for a software company, and a portion of my department was laid off, and I was thinking of a business to start going with my genuine interest and something that I love to do. After a lot of thought and conversations with family and close friends Visual Access Photography was born.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities and skills that I think every photographer should have in order to be successful in this industry is first and foremost, respect and professionalism for yourself and your clients. The second I would say are soft skills and the third I would say is persistence because Rome wasn’t built in a day.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
At this point in my career, I do limited TFP shoots and collaborations, but I am open to some if the client has a good idea good energy and a serious about the craft. I’m also interested in clients with a budget, clients with a vision, and corporate clients.
