We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bo Talley Williams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bo below.
Bo , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience is also my strength. I was raised by women and grew up around, strong, unapologetic, independent black women. The women that raised me showed no fear in anything that they did, nor did they allow themselves to look weak, not even in the mist of all the bad things that life would bring their way, I don’t ever recall seeing the women that raised me cry.
I never saw them give up, so I had no choice but to keep moving, be resilient, stand tall, use my voice and find my strength in everything that life would take me through.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I have been extremely busy in the past several months. Being a serial entrepreneur requires a lot of your time and sacrifice. I own three businesses so they keep me very busy. My businesses range from the entertainment industry, to health and fitness, and philanthropy. Currently under my entertainment company I have filmed a pilot for a reality series that I’m hoping will get some attraction to be put on Main stream television and I am currently producing a podcast that I will be a cohost on. I’m proud to announce that my 501 C3 charity organization (Balling For Lupus Luvs Foundation) held its 10th annual celebrity charity basketball game called Balling for Lupus on July 29, 2023 in Dallas Texas.
I am currently working with a few of my celebrity clients for their annual charity events this fall and winter. Continue to follow us on Instagram (@blaqpearlent) to stay in the loop on a lot of the things I will be doing for the remaining of 2023 going into 2024.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
When I think about my journey into entrepreneurialship, I recall being very intentional, I, always inserted myself in conversations or around people that were doing the same thing I was doing so that I could learn what to do, and what not to do when it came to my skill set.
I always tell people if you’re not trying to be the garbage man then don’t hang around with the garbage man because all the garbageman is doing is picking up trash. That’s his job! So if you want to be the model, then hang in the model places, go to the model calls , the castings, etc.
Networking played a huge role in my success. I believe your network is your networth. So my three qualities and skills would be to be intentional, net work and surround yourself with like-minded people.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Right now for me, my biggest challenge for my businesses it is trying to staying relevant on social media because it has become the go to source for the world when it comes to businesses. I still believe in the old-school manner of conducting business, which is networking/business cards/emails and being on your computer and not your phone all day. I value the old-school principles however, I know that the world is ever-changing and evolving, and I must be ready to evolve as the world changes. Social media can definitely enhance all aspects of your brand and your businesses and making sure I’m doing the right things to be seen on social media can sometimes be a challenge because I’m from the old-school way of life and business and it’s hard for me to remember to share on social media, a.k.a. post on everyday, lol. There’s so many amazing tools out here that can post for you and I have to get hip to that as well. I just haven’t really taken the time to invest in those platforms. However, my biggest challenge is social media. I feel I’ve come a long way and I’m getting better, but I still have a ways to go to understanding, algorithms, etc..
