We were lucky to catch up with Bob Sorrentino recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bob, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Growing up in family owned business being the son of the owner I always feet that I needed to work harder than all of the hired help so that they would respect my effort to not take advantage of my position.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I grew up in the hospitality/restaurant, industry, A family owned restaurant catering to clients from all walks of life. National and international celebrities, foreign dignitaries heads of government royalty and sports icons. I learned the importance of customer relations from a young age. I have always enjoyed being a part of something bigger than myself. The transition to handling fine Art came about through the owner ship of several post store. One of my stores servicesd the Art district on El Paso Dr
in Palm Desert, CA one day one of our Artist clients asked if I would drive his life-size sculpture to Santa Fe, New Mexico rather than shipping it with freight company I crunched the numbers and we made it work 25 years later we have 10 vans in our national fleet and are everywhere in the country twice a month. We recently moved into a new building doubling the size of our facility. Providing us more space for art storage and our ever growing stuff.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Know how to listen to your clients, understand their needs and build life long relationships. Businesses thrive on great relationships.
Finding team members who live and project a level of honesty and integrity that represents your vision. As a saying goes, you’re only as good as your weakest link.
Drive and ambition are only part of the equation. Follow through and completing the task will build the trust and keep clients coming back for more
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
