We were lucky to catch up with Bob Waun recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bob, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
There’s always a better way to do something, and often several better ways. This bountiful of creative possibilities always leaves me hopeful that humankind will progress toward a better world for future generations. It also makes me believe that every challenge is overcome-able with some new ideas, inputs and willingness to ask “how”?
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
DIRT is a concept that everything has intrinsic value, a starting point to ‘pull strings and learn new things’. DIRT is soil before it had life. DIRT is what you dig up when you are looking for answers, it’s the building blocks of intelligence.
We started building DIRT Realty www.DIRTRealty.com in 2020, during COVID shutdowns, declaring a ‘new beginning’.
DIRT Labs was launched next to study how to clean up industrial land which was polluted by using phytoremediation (nature’s method to cleanse itself). DIRT Labs stumbled into several new technologies which led to other ventures including Pay DIRT www.DIRTinvest.com to invest in degraded farm land, ChargeStar EV www.chargestar.com to set up EV stations, Green Course Solutions to study golf course contaminations, Physicians Property Partners www.PhysiciansPropertyPartners.com investing in medical offices and Holla Holler Studios www.HollaHoller.com to provide small venues for touring artists.
It’s exciting to use synergy in each business to springboard the next venture. I see the connectivity of each business plan and how they are pieces in a larger puzzle.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Quit quickly.
“Winners never quit” is a lie that I must remind myself of often. Quit the things which are not getting traction quickly, put them up on the shelf, it’s not a failure, move on to the next idea which is working, focus on what is working until it stops spinning upward. Then grab the last project off the shelf and try to juggle that into the air. Success has as much to do with timing as almost any other factor.
For all we know, electricity was discovered/invented many decades before, but the timing was too soon so know one commercialized the light bulb? Ford wasn’t the first to invent a car, he wasn’t even the 10th.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Not hearing the critics.
I always wanted to believe that people, generally want progress and they wish each other success. But this isn’t the case, there are haters in the cheap seats, trolls throwing opinions just to see if they can gain some attention, to pull others down to make themselves look taller.
Blocking out the uninformed opinions of people who don’t know me, who haven’t taken the time to hear the mission. I learned recently to not hear their voices in the crowd. It helps a lot to keep focus on the people we are trying to help, the goals we are engaged in and the upside for humanity (and all sentient beings) we believe our projects promise.
