Meet Bobbi Mason

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bobbi Mason a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Bobbi, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

My generosity comes from going through traumatic loss and the desire to not want anyone else to have to go through what I have gone through.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My goal is to be a type of “advocate” for young widows through my Widow’s Wish Foundation, a qualified 501(c)(3) Non Profit. I believe that supporting widows is a biblical, ethical and moral responsibility. Remarkably, it is difficult to find an organization within a church or community that has a developed program to serve widows during their first year of loss, especially for young widows and their children.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think the most important qualities that have served me well along my journey have been: my tenacity; wanting better for myself and my children; and my overall mental fortitude.

As far as advice for others who are on their own grief journey, I would advise them to remember that it takes time and energy to move through grief and loss and that self-care is imperative, even if it is just something very little and simple that you do for yourself on a daily basis. Grief is a marathon, not a sprint so it is important to give yourself grace.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

The current challenge is lack of donations to support our programs through Widow’s Wish Foundation. Fundraising for this type of nonprofit is not as glamorous to those who support other more well known causes.
