Meet Boston Jones

We recently connected with Boston Jones and have shared our conversation below.

Boston , so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?

When I worked as a firefighter for the city of Dallas I spent all of my time off focusing on music and being a father. Having such little time available to me in my life made me extremely focused on making time for music and my dj career.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

David “Boston” Jones (@djbostonjones) is the owner & operator of East Coast DJ booking agency, MASS TEXT LLC. He is also a member of Pineapple Beach House Productions (@p_b_hproductions) pulsationnationdjs (@pulsationnationdjs) as well as the multimedia director of The Elysium Project (@official_elysiumproject).

He is an East Coast & Texas-based DJ and full-time musician endorsed with SJC custom drums. Boston started his music career over 10 years ago and graduated with bachelor’s of the arts from “Berklee College of Music” as well as “The DJ School Dallas” in 2023. He has performed live on feature-length films such as “Ghostbusters 2016 (IMDb)” and also held live performances supporting artists such as DJ Vice and Nicky Jam. He has also worked with major sports teams such as The Boston Celtics and The Boston Red Sox. His newest project “Bostons Tea party” combines a live podcast, dj competition and comedy show.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I think that working as a firefighter helped me gain the skills to be a disciplined artist and create a solid foundation for my future success. I also have leadership qualities that I think make me a good mentor and I’ve been involved in music education for many years. I always like to help younger and newer djs learn the craft to help them get better what self expression.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

One of my biggest challenges as an artist is dealing with imposter syndrome, or the idea that I don’t actually make music or that I’m some kind of fake dj. I have been a dj for 10 years and I am very skilled at this however with many gigs I constantly feel as though I have forgotten what I’m doing.
