Meet Brad & Tim The Craft Grooms

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brad & Tim The Craft Grooms. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Brad & Tim, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

You have to be YOU. Share what brings YOU joy. Share what makes YOU laugh. Share what makes YOU cry.

We share/post our real life. Sure our videos are edited with humorous voiceovers, sped up or slowed down for emphasis, and a soundtrack is added for background. But, we always share our successes and our failures. That’s what we think makes us relatable and authentic.

By being YOU, you are being vulnerable, and that’s the best way to overcome imposter syndrome.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

During the Covid Pandemic, we started to share our passion for crafting via social media. We’d share small projects we were working on or ideas we had and we started to notice, “Hey, people are interested in crafting and they have questions.” So we started to answer questions, give tips, and share more.

Slowly our following grew and pretty soon we felt this demand to keep posting. Like, we felt pressure to share more, post more content, and try to reply to every comment and question.

That’s when we took a step back and reminded ourselves, this is for fun. Let’s stick to sharing what we’re comfortable with, and if people like our authentic approach, maybe they’ll stick around.

Now, four years later, our content has evolved and our follower count has grown. We’re Dads now, so our content includes baby tips, products we love, and craft projects for the family. We’re sharing more of our kitchen recipes because people want to know what we’re cooking and baking. And we’re also sharing our travel adventures. People want to know what to pack for a baby, what are some traveling tips, and how do you craft a great family vacation.

Being “Content Creators” has always been fun for us, but our family will always come first. That’s why we may only share something once or twice a week. Parenting keeps you busy!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Always ask yourself these three questions: Does it bring you joy? Are you being authentic? Is it important to you?

We share a lot of things that bring us joy. Sometimes people will leave comments, “I’m laughing because you’re laughing.” It’s true. A craft project fail can be frustrating in the moment, but by sharing it, you have to step back and laugh at the outcome. Other times, we may bake a flawless looking cake. Sharing the cake and how we made it brings us joy because maybe someone will be able to do the same in their kitchen.

We always try to be authentic. Again, we share our successes and our failures. Every craft coming out flawless or every dinner coming out perfect, that isn’t real life! Being authentic means being vulnerable and by sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly, it makes us, and you, relatable.

We always ask, “Is this important?” Our best example is our daughter. As parents, it’s our job to keep her safe, so it’s important to us to not share her identity in our videos. It’s our choice to be silly and share ourselves on social media, but we don’t know if that’s something she’d want. So, when she’s old enough to understand, maybe that’s something we can discuss as a family. Until then, you’ll only catch a glimpse of her hand, or the back of her head in our content because that’s something important we’ve decided.

Know what’s important to you, hold to it, and never let anyone, anything, or any amount of money, pressure you into breaking that.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

You know you’ve “made it” when there are imposter accounts reposting your content as their own. We wish there was more support from social media platforms on this issue.

If you like or love a video and repost it, just try to be courteous to the original creator and tag them so they receive the proper credit.
