We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brad Trevethan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brad below.
Brad, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My father instilled my work ethic in me, he is the hardest working person that I have ever met. My Dad would wake my brother and I up at 7:00am every Saturday to do 3 or 4 hours of yard work. This went on from age 7 to 16 and then one day my Dad says “no yard work this weekend, I hired a landscaper to do it from now on”. I tell him that I thought we could not afford a landscaper and he told me, we can afford a landscaper, I was just trying to teach you work ethic all these years and you have a job now so you no longer need to do the yard work. My father sacrificed his Saturday mornings for over 9 years in order to teach us work ethic and it worked and I will always tell him thank you for that.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Coyote Color produces custom Stickers, Decals, Yard Signs, Posters and Banners for small businesses and direct to consumers. We launched in August of 2024 with a goal of providing awesome custom products at a great price point all while making customer service our number one priority.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Work ethic, ability to problem solve and a love for people and conversation are three qualities that were most impactful in my journey to Coyote Color.
My adivce to folks early in their journey would be.
Work Ethic – Get up early (5:00am) and beat the day, you can get more done between 5:00am and noon than you could ever imagine and this schedule will help develop your work ethic.
Ability to Problem Solve – Do not shy away from the challenges that arise in business whether it be technical, employee or customer related. Every business will have problems and the success of that business will depend on how those problems are solved or handled.
Love for People and Conversation – You don’t have to love people but you have to have solid communication skills when operating a business. Make it a point to talk to clients in person or on the phone and these skills will naturally progress the more you do it.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
I avoided social media since it’s beginning at that is coming back to haunt me. My previous business was a wholesale large format printing and sticker business where marketing and or social media was not needed, we were a 100% referral based niche business. Now being in the online direct to consumer and B2B sticker business requires me to use social media daily to market my business and it has been a struggle for me to learn, thankfully I have two amazing younger sisters who are teaching me the ways of social media otherwise I would be completely lost.
