Meet Brandi Eatman

We recently connected with Brandi Eatman and have shared our conversation below.

Brandi, so great to have you sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our readers and so let’s jump right into one of our favorite topics – empathy. We think a lack of empathy is at the heart of so many issues the world is struggling with and so our hope is to contribute to an environment that fosters the development of empathy. Along those lines, we’d love to hear your thoughts around where your empathy comes from?

I lost my mom when I was ten years old, and that experience shaped my empathy more than anything else. Grief at that age made me deeply aware that everyone is carrying struggles you can’t always see. I learned how much it means when someone simply shows up with understanding and kindness without judgment. Because that was what I needed myself. Losing her gave me a perspective that life is fragile and people need compassion, and it has stayed with me in the way I listen, connect, and care for others.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a family and children’s photographer, and I specialize in capturing the connections, laughter, and little in-between moments that tell a family’s real story. What excites me most is creating images that feel like memories you can hold onto—photographs where you can almost hear the giggles, feel the sand between your toes, or remember the way your child’s hand felt in yours.

What makes my work special is that I meet families where they are. Whether it’s a neurodivergent child who needs space to be themselves, a mom who isn’t used to being in front of the camera, or a vacationing family wanting to freeze the magic of their time together, my goal is always to create a relaxed, joyful experience that results in portraits that feel authentic and timeless.

Right now, I’m especially excited about my beach sessions here in the Bradenton/Sarasota area, as well as some creative offerings I’ve launched to let moms and daughters play dress-up in stunning gowns. These sessions are about so much more than photos—they’re about celebrating connection, confidence, and having fun in the process.

My brand is rooted in storytelling, warmth, and inclusivity. At the heart of it, I want families to see themselves the way their children see them—with love, joy, and beauty.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, I think the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, connection, and adaptability.

Resilience has carried me through unexpected challenges—starting a business just before a pandemic, navigating recessions, and still finding ways to keep showing up for the families who trust me with their memories. Resilience is built by reminding yourself why you started and letting that “why” guide you when things get tough.

Connection has been the heart of everything. Photography isn’t just about a beautiful picture—it’s about making people feel seen and valued. I’ve learned that when you invest in real relationships with your clients, they’ll come back again and again, because they know you “get” them.

Adaptability has allowed me to grow. From shifting my sessions to accommodate neurodivergent kids, to learning SEO to reach traveling families, to creating new offerings when the market shifted—being flexible has been essential. The more open you are to trying, learning, and adjusting, the stronger your brand becomes.

For anyone just starting their journey, it would be to focus on people, not perfection. Make people feel seen and understood, and always be willing to learn

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client isn’t defined by age or background—it’s more about heart and energy. The families I connect with most are the ones who value experiences over perfection. They aren’t worried about every hair being in place or their kids sitting still; instead, they want to celebrate the real, messy, joy-filled moments that make their family unique.

An ideal client trusts the process and allows me to guide them, but also embraces spontaneity—whether that means splashing in the waves, twirling in a dress, or letting their child lead the way during a session. They understand that the most beautiful photographs often come from the in-between moments, not the posed ones.

Above all, my ideal clients see photography as more than pictures—they see it as preserving a season of life, a memory they’ll never get back, and a gift for generations to come.
