Meet Brandon Gates

We were lucky to catch up with Brandon Gates recently and have shared our conversation below.

Brandon , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

Adversity and tragedies have played a significant role in shaping my work ethic. When life throws challenges my way, I’ve learned to see them as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles. Difficult experiences taught me resilience, pushing me to work harder and smarter. Each setback has instilled a deeper sense of discipline, perseverance, and determination. In the face of hardship, I developed a mindset that refuses to quit. I know that success isn’t always immediate, and often it’s the struggle that shapes the grit necessary to achieve long-term goals.

Overcoming tragedies has also deepened my empathy and understanding. I’ve learned to appreciate the value of hard work, not just for the results but for the strength and character it builds. There’s a certain pride in knowing that I’ve faced tough times and still pushed forward. Every step, even when difficult, has been part of molding me into someone who values effort, consistency, and the ability to rise above the toughest moments.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

With The Pull Up Experience podcasting has become a powerful tool for expanding my real estate business. When I started, I realized that sharing insights, tips, and industry knowledge through a podcast allowed me to reach a wider audience in a more personal and engaging way. It also helped me network with individuals and professionals outside of the realm of real estate. It’s given me a platform to connect with potential clients, share my expertise, and build trust, all while offering value to listeners who are looking to learn more about real estate.

The beauty of podcasting is its versatility—it lets me showcase my personality, discuss market trends, and provide advice that helps people make informed decisions. By consistently putting out valuable content, I’ve been able to position myself as an authority in the field, attracting both clients and collaborators who resonate with my approach.

Now, I’m teaching others how to use podcasting to grow their own businesses. I guide them through the process of building their brand through authentic conversations, creating content that speaks to their target audience, and using the platform to establish credibility. It’s rewarding to see others succeed by following a similar path, as podcasting not only drives business but also fosters real connections in the industry.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

If you’re just starting your journey as a real estate agent, my biggest piece of advice is to focus on building strong relationships and developing a solid reputation from the beginning. Real estate is a people business, so investing time in getting to know your clients, understanding their needs, and providing value beyond just the transaction will set you apart.

Here are a few key things that helped me when I was starting out:

1) Leverage your network: Don’t be afraid to tap into your personal network for referrals. Word of mouth is incredibly powerful in this business. Make sure everyone you know is aware that you’re in real estate, and don’t hesitate to ask for recommendations.

2) Be consistent: Whether it’s marketing, following up with leads, or networking, consistency is key. A daily routine that includes prospecting and nurturing leads will help keep your pipeline full.

3) Embrace technology and social media: In today’s market, having an online presence is essential. Start building your brand through social media platforms, create content that shows your expertise, and even consider starting a podcast or blog to provide valuable insights to potential clients.

Bonus one: Keep learning: Real estate is constantly evolving, and the best agents are the ones who stay up-to-date on industry trends, new tools, and market conditions. Attend seminars, take courses, and always look for ways to improve your skills.

Finally, be patient. Real estate success doesn’t happen overnight, but with persistence, dedication, and the willingness to learn from every experience, you’ll see your business grow steadily.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

For me, the ideal real estate client is someone who values open communication and is committed to the process. I love working with clients who are clear about their goals but also open to guidance. Real estate can be a complex journey, and when clients trust my expertise and are willing to collaborate, it makes the entire experience smoother and more rewarding for both sides.

Another key characteristic is a client who’s prepared, both financially and mentally. Buying or selling property is a big decision, and having a clear understanding of budget, timelines, and realistic expectations is crucial. Ideal clients also do their homework—they have a good sense of what they want and need but appreciate expert advice when it comes to market conditions or finding that perfect fit.

I also find it refreshing when clients are patient and flexible. Real estate doesn’t always move at the pace we want, and those who understand that sometimes it takes time to find the right home or get the best deal tend to have a more positive experience.

Ultimately, the best clients are those who are engaged, informed, and trusting. They see our relationship as a partnership, and together we work toward achieving their goals in the most effective way possible.
