We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brandon Goldberg. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brandon below.
Brandon, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
Honestly, it’s something I have to work at, it doesn’t always come naturally. But I had a close friend, Alex, who was a constant reminder of the power of a positive mental attitude. No matter how tough things got, he believed in finding a reason to keep going, to keep your head up.
I carry that with me, literally. I have a tattoo on my left arm that says Excelsior from my favorite movie Silver Linings Playbook. For me, it’s a reminder to take pain, doubt, or setbacks and turn them into fuel. I don’t pretend things are always great, but I try to choose to be positive when I can. When things aren’t going well, it’s usually not long before I look down at my arm, think of Alex, and try to find the silver lining.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a mortgage strategist and the creator of Your Home Loan Surgeons. The name sounds a little different on purpose, it reflects how we approach our work. With precision, care, and a deep focus on problem-solving. Mortgages are more than numbers on a page. For most people, this is about home, family, security, and it’s emotional. I take that seriously.
What makes what we do special is the experience we deliver. We slow down at the beginning to speed up later, building a financing game plan that fits someone’s real life, not just what they qualify for on paper. My team and I act as advocates, not just lenders. We look for solutions others might miss, and we help people feel confident from pre-approval to closing.
One of the most exciting things we’re doing right now is expanding our Wealth Team concept, bringing together financial planners, CPAs, trust attorneys, and insurance experts to help clients make smarter decisions, not just about buying a home, but about building wealth long term. We also offer financial wellness benefits to employers, so their employees can access this kind of guidance and education for free. It’s about shifting the conversation from “Can I buy a home?” to “How can I use real estate to grow and protect my future?” Basically we want to help employees keep more of their paycheck, grow it into wealth, and teach their kids to do the same.
We’ve also been hosting unique community events like Pour Decisions, a midday networking series for professionals across industries, and LaughteRx, our annual appreciation comedy night. Both are designed to bring people together in real, human ways, because we like to connect with people outside of finances.
At the end of the day, we help people forget the financing so they can focus on what matters most. And if we’ve done our job right, clients don’t just get a loan, they get a team they trust and want to invite over when they move in.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three things that have made the biggest impact on my journey are patience, problem solving, and communication.
Patience has been key. In this business, and really in life, things rarely go exactly as planned. People get overwhelmed, emotions run high. Early on, I wanted everything to move fast and work perfectly. But I’ve learned that slowing down, staying calm, and staying the course almost always leads to better outcomes. Take your time, there’s no such thing as a mortgage emergency.
Problem solving is what separates average from exceptional in this field. We built our business doing back up lending, stepping in when other lenders fail to perform. Loans aren’t always clean. Income can be messy. Guidelines can feel like a moving target. The skill is in knowing how to ask better questions, dig deeper, and think creatively. If I was new to the business, I’d join a group like Housing Link and surround yourself with people who’ve been in the trenches, ask them how they approach tough scenarios, and study why deals get declined so you can learn to avoid those landmines.
Communication has probably been the most underrated superpower. It’s not just about being responsive, it’s about making the complex feel simple. It’s about helping people feel seen, heard, and understood, even when the news isn’t great. You don’t need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one people trust. And that comes from being real, honest, and consistent with your message and follow through. Do what you say you’re going to do.
If I had to give advice to someone early on, I’d say this: take care of people the way you’d want someone to take care of your family.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always open to collaborating with people who share a client-first mindset and genuinely want to help others succeed. A big part of what I do is work on landing pages and lead magnets that partners can use to help prospects and increase trust.
I work especially well with real estate agents, builders, financial planners, CPAs, trust attorneys, insurance professionals, and even HR leaders who care about financial wellness for their teams. If you’re someone who’s passionate about adding real value, not just chasing the next transaction, we should talk.
Whether it’s co-hosting an event, offering financial education as a benefit to employees, cross-marketing to grow each other’s businesses, or just figuring out how to better support our clients, I’m all about partnerships that make an impact.
