Meet Brandon Holley

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brandon Holley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Brandon with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I know we’ve all heard the saying, “if you do what you love, you will never work a day of your life.” That couldn’t me more true with my perception of life. I never got into music to make money and it was always my way of diving into my own world to create what I wanted to hear. In high school it was always a dream to make music for a living and that’s where my vision started. That dream built my work ethic and I ran off with it. You are never going to get to where you want to be in life without a strong work ethic. Vision where you want to be, put a game plan together, and attack it every day.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a music producer currently living in Huntington Beach, CA. I spent my 20’s living in Los Angeles, CA and touring the world with artists such as LMFAO, Shwayze, Huey Mack, Cam Meekins, and more. My end goal was always to be a music producer but since I was constantly on the road, it was tough to really get in the studio and make music I was proud of. Playing shows every night gave me knowledge of how people reacted to certain songs, sounds, and the overall vibe of what people wanted to hear live. As I slowed down playing shows I had more time to dive into what I wanted to create as a producer and I couldn’t be more excited with the direction I am going in. It’s been awesome to work with different artists and collaborating on music. I am only getting started in the producing world.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
It’s been a wild journey and a few things that helped me get to where I am are focus, consistency, and to be open minded. Focus is everything and you really need to keep your mind on the end goal. It was never easy for me to always be focused living in Hollywood but consistency was always key. I always set a goal to make 3 songs a week to stay consistent with making music. They didn’t have to be 3 completed and perfect songs a week. I just wanted to be able to create 3 ideas each week and elaborate on them over time. Lastly, keeping an open mind especially in todays world is always key. I never listened to any type of house or techno music growing up. None of my friends listened to it. As I met more musicians and producers in LA, I expanded my brain with different types of music. It really helped me blend different ideas together and really have some fun.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Collaborating with other artists is a really cool feeling when it all works out. I have really have been really lucky and enjoyed working with such amazing artists in my career. I am always open to collaborate and make music with other musicians and producers. I really want to work with more vocalists so please reach out if you want to make some music!
