Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandon Mcray. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brandon, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Having grown up as a luke warm Christian, I thought my purpose/identity was found in what I was good at in the world. The Lord gifted me with physical speed, a little bit of intellect and high passion; therefore, I spent a majority of my time on athletics and I thought that defined who I was. My recruitment to play football at the United States Military Academy at West Point was a dream come true. However, my 5’9” 175lb frame with 4.7 40 yard dash speed and less than average quickness did not bode well for Division 1 football. So my college football career was fairly short lived, and my new identity became a West Point Cadet, then it was a commissioned officer in the United States Army, and then a Blackhawk pilot. While serving as a Blackhawk pilot in combat, a traumatic situation occurred where I believed I should’ve been taken instead of my fellow five aircrew members that died. It was shortly after that event that I believe I heard God tell me that He did not take me because He needed me to get serious about my faith. Ever since that fateful day, I’ve been on a steady growth path toward the Lord and away from the things of the world that were preventing me from finding my true purpose. Aside from following Christ, loving my wife as Christ loves the church, and fathering my children, my purpose now is to help others come into a deep and abiding relationship with Jesus Christ (John 15:4) through passionate disciple making (Matthew 28:19). When I am executing this purpose I experience complete fulfillment and motivation to press into any difficult scenarios or situations that arise, as I know the tension will only help me further refine my purpose going forward.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Serving as the Head Dealer of Hope for the Transformed Discipleship Ministry, my job is to lead our nonprofit organization in training, equipping and inspiring churches and men to help their struggling brothers find freedom from lust and pornography through their relationship with Jesus Christ via one on one, confidential coaching. Statistically, 70% of Christian men struggle with lust and pornography, and while organizations like the National Center on Sexual Exploitation are doing all they can to reduce the supply of sexual content available to the public, we are very excited about this opportunity to address the demand for lust and pornography through a brother’s personal relationship with Jesus Christ and compassionate discipleship.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The quality that was most impactful on this amazing journey the Lord has me on is Christlikeness. After my traumatic encounter, it was my decision to get serious about my faith and start following Christ that set me on the path I was looking for. The skill that was most impactful to me was remaining authentic and transparent no matter the cost. The more I displayed this skill the more productivity I saw in our mission execution. Lastly, the area of knowledge that helped me the most was intentionality in reading, meditating and memorizing portions of the Bible. God’s word is the best piece of knowledge on earth, and the more we know it the more effective we become in all areas of our life.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Absolutely! Since 70% of Christian men are struggling with lust and pornography, that means 30% of Christian men have been delivered from this stronghold. Therefore, we are asking these 30% to join us as volunteer coaches and push back this darkness that has enveloped our Big “C” Church. I’ve written a guidebook on our ministry model that is available for these men and ministry leaders that want to incorporate Transformed into their organization. Details for the guidebook and our ministry can be found at TransformedDM.com or you can reach out to me at [email protected].
