Meet Brandon Rashad Clayvon

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brandon Rashad Clayvon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brandon Rashad below.

Brandon Rashad, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

What’s kept my creativity alive is a mix of curiosity, risk-taking, and a willingness to start over when something doesn’t feel aligned. I’ve become a professional at trusting my gut, and I’ve learned that creative energy doesn’t disappear with age—it just needs room to breathe and something meaningful to pour into.

For me, it’s really come down to making it a priority—even when life gets hectic. Creativity has always been a core part of who I am, but as responsibilities increased, and routines became more structured, I realized that it needed space and time in order to thrive. So, I made a conscious decision to treat creative expression as a necessity rather than a luxury. And it doesn’t just show up in art, but also in how I solve problems, communicate with others, and approach challenges in everyday life.

A moment that really brought it all to life for me was when I quit a successful career in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. On paper, everything looked stable and “right,” but creatively and spiritually I felt stuck. I knew I had more to express, more to build, and more to explore than what that path was offering. Walking away from it wasn’t easy, but it was the first major step in officially choosing creativity, risk, and personal growth over comfort and predictability; and ever since, I’ve been able to channel my energy into things that I’m passionate about.

Producing music is one of those things. It gives me an outlet to express myself, experiment, and tap into emotions or ideas I can’t always put into words. And most importantly, it’s just fun as hell. There’s something about starting with a blank canvas and creating something that didn’t exist before that keeps me inspired, and there’s no better feeling than creating something that evokes emotion in other people.

Entrepreneurship has also been a huge creative outlet for me. Whether it’s starting on a new project, or just solving unexpected problems, it all requires imagination and a willingness to try something different. I’ve learned that taking risks, even when there’s a chance of failing, is one of the best ways to grow creatively. Some of my best ideas and most successful moments have come from stepping out of my comfort zone and just going for it.

What’s really key for keeping my creativity alive, though, is continuing to surround myself with inspiration. That could mean connecting with other creative people, spending a lot of time in nature, or even just carving out quiet moments where ideas can surface without pressure. As a kid, creativity felt playful and free, and I try my best to protect that mindset.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Professionally, I split my time between producing music and running a controls engineering company. Both have become extensions of who I am as a person, and with that I’ve been able to build a reputation for being reliable and honest, and delivering quality work. I’ve also been able to meet amazing people and build a team that I trust, which has given me the ability and confidence to add value to any project.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three traits that were most impactful in my journey are curiosity, ambition, and self-confidence.

Curiosity has driven a constant desire to learn, explore, and understand, and never allows me to be complacent; ambition has provided me with a healthy amount of stubbornness, and allows me to truly believe that I’ll achieve the goals that I set for myself; and self-confidence has allowed me to love how I present myself to the world, and also has allowed me to believe in my ability to solve problems and overcome obstacles.

I think I was able to build these qualities by always showing up for myself, keeping my word, and never backing down from challenges, especially early in my journey. Consistency is key, and I fell in love with the process of getting a little bit better every single day.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

It may sound simple. but I think the most impactful thing that my parents did for me was let me be me. They allowed me to develop my own identity and be authentic, which helped shape my personality and character. From the halfhearted way that I approached school, my quirky fashion choices, and the endless number of hobbies that I’ve tried, to the sports I’ve participated in, the jobs I chose and the ways I decided to leave them—through it all they’ve never made me feel like anything I did was wrong. They actually provide encouragement and constructive criticism from a healthy place. There’s a trust that they have in me, which has really given me the confidence to go for what I believe in. They’ve allowed me to be curious, and to explore.
