Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandon Redd. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brandon, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
When I think of optimism, I instantly think of faith. They go hand and hand for me. I truly believe everything happens for a reason, so any time I’ve doubted myself, I stood strong in the notion that whatever I was feeling would pass. That skill of overcoming obstacles was birthed from experiences that I went through from a young age. Before I got into music, I wanted to be an actor, so I used to go on auditions a lot. Throughout that time, I got a ton of “no’s” which can be very hard for any person to endure when you’re chasing a dream. Obviously, it was really tough but I really feel like it gave me tough skin and prepared me for the music industry. You learn valuable lessons when trying to work in the entertainment industry as a creative because you analyze every move you make and what you could’ve done better to achieve that thing you’re pursuing. Overall, this optimism that I continue to have even on the most demoralizing days comes from those feelings of pessimism that I might’ve felt at points along my journey in my earlier years.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m like a hyper creative mind. I’m always coming up with ideas for different stuff, but my main focus is my music career. I’m a rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer. The cool part about my music is that the records I put out are all pieces of art that I create from the ground up, so the songs I have are very genuine to who I am. I come up with songs from the things that I’ve experienced personally and I like to think it helps in connecting with the listener. I’m human, so I love writing about how situations may have made me feel or things that I’ve observed that I have opinions on, and so forth.
Right now, I’m working on an EP that I’m going to be releasing this year. I’m super excited to share it with everyone. It’s a small glimpse into my life living in Miami and it’s just a lot of fun to listen to. There’s a party vibes, love vibes and straight up real talk on the project. I tried to put together something that feels unique to me but universal in the ride I take you on throughout the EP. I would reveal the name of it, but I want to keep it close to the chest until it gets a little closer to releasing. However, the next single I’ll be dropping will be entitled, “ABC.” Can’t wait for you guys to hear that one.
Another exciting thing I had the pleasure of being a part of was a short film called, “Coven.” It’s a really cool vampire concept that a close friend of mine came up with, and I had an absolute blast shooting with the cast and crew. It premiered June 24th at Savor Cinema in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think the three qualities that were the most impactful in my journey were my resilience, eagerness to learn, and my competitive nature. Those three things helped to keep me dedicated to this dream of mine. I’d honestly say that the best way to improve upon and/or develop those qualities is by figuring out your “why?” When I say that, I mean finding out why you want to do what you set out to do and what you’re willing to give to get there. That’s something that needs to be hashed out before you can really hone in on those traits.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
This is actually a great question because I was just talking about wanting to collaborate more with people in the industry. For the place that I’m at in my career, I’d love to just be able to work with people that can see the vision of where I’m trying to take this whole thing. I want to work with people that understand my brand and believe in it because it takes a village to hit the heights that we see some of our favorite artists hit. I know I have what it takes to get there, so anyone I partner with or collaborate would have to have that same hunger that I have. I want everyone that’s been by my side to eat which happens when good company comes around to do good work. As long as the intention is good and the hunger is there, I’m down to work.
