We were lucky to catch up with Brandon Small recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brandon, so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?
I wouldn’t say I’ve necessarily overcome burnout. For me, burnout is a persistent struggle. As an entrepreneur, I co-founded a company that is up against over 100 years of real estate rhetoric and status quo. We’ve overcome a lot of obstacles and skepticism but we’re still swimming against a very strong current. Every day has new challenges that don’t have a clearly defined answer. I’m putting my best foot forward and learning as I go. I celebrate every small win our team earns and take even the tiniest steps forward as moments to add wind to my sails. When the days are particularly hard, I fall back on my passion for the mission of our company and surround myself with the support and understanding of our amazing team here at Realtyless.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Brandon Small and I’m a co-founder at Realtyless, an FSBO exclusive marketplace. Realtyless is a full service for sale by owner platform that offers high quality professional services with absolutely zero commission. Our mission is to help both buyers and sellers have a better real estate experience with professional guidance and transparency at a fraction of the cost of using a real estate agent. The company is a new startup headquartered in Knoxville and is currently working with several FSBO homeowners around the state of Tennessee.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that have been the most impactful to me are resilience, perseverance, and willingness to change. Resilience is probably the most important quality I’ve had to rely on but also one of the most challenging to hold on to. Over the years, I’ve found that taking a bike ride after work helps clear my head. It allows me to remove the noise of things that bother me but don’t help move the company forward. I’ve also found meeting up with friends/family in the evening or on weekends helps me let go of the small things. As for perseverance, I co-founded a company that I love and believe in and that makes persevering much easier. There is a lot we don’t know as we forge this new path with FSBO and our team’s willingness to take feedback, data, and constructive criticism and make changes has been what keeps our company alive.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Here at Realtyless, we’re always looking to collaborate with FSBO sellers. We’re offering free professional photography, a professional pre-inspection, and professional market value appraisal to our initial sellers. Our marketing team creates dedicated national ads for the homes on our platform to help the homes get the exposure they deserve. If you’re interested in selling your home FSBO, I’d be happy to connect with you directly. You can reach me at [email protected] or (414) 216-3842.
