We were lucky to catch up with Brandon Zemp recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brandon, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
As an Entrepreneur, Investor and Professional Podcaster, my life is jam packed. I don’t have much room on my calendar on a day-to-day basis. So in order for me to be productive at a high-level, I had to learn how to carve out blocks of time to take care of myself (physically and mentally) so that I can maximize my effectiveness each day.
1. Eat Well – This might sound like a nagging-mother, but don’t take it for granted! Think of your body like a car. If you want to perform like a Ferrari, you need Premium gasoline, not regular. The body and mind work the same way. If you have a bad diet filled with unprocessed sugars, overloaded carbohydrates and chemicals, you aren’t going to be the best version of yourself. So every Sunday I prep out my meals for the week emphasizing proteins and health fats, with a mix of supplements to make sure my brain has everything it needs to not get drained.
2. Exercise – I believe everyone should be getting their blood pumping each day. It helps with oxygen flow and nutrient delivery/absorption. If you have that, you’ll be much happier and capable of taking on your day-t0-day tasks.
3. Read – Part of self-care is self-improvement, which means you need to be learning new things and stimulating your brain in enjoyable ways. For me, I enjoy reading in my free time. For others, that might be listening to a podcast or watching some videos in a course or on YouTube.
4. Enjoy Life – If you don’t make the time to enjoy life, at least a little bit, then what’s the point? We all work are butt off so that we can enjoy life the way we choose. So don’t feel guilty watching a little “Love is Blind” on Netflix, or BBQing a nice Steak, or gaming for a couple hours with your buddies. The more you allow yourself to unwind and relax, the more productive you’ll be come Monday morning.
Those are the core components of what I aim to do weekly to give myself the needed self-care.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
The thing most people know me for is my podcast. I have a weekly show where I interview CEOs, Execs, Founders, Investors and Influential individuals in the emerging tech space. We talk about Artificial Intelligence, FinTech, IoT, Robotics, Cloud Computing, just about everything you can think of.
I’m also a published author with Forbes and a former contributor to Forbes. In January 2023 I released a book titled “The Future Economy” detailing how Web3 would transform the financial world as we know it today.
I’m also the VP of Partnerships for a new social media startup called Bump Social, which is available to download on the App Store and Google Play Store.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The faster you fail, the more you will succeed. That was one of the best pieces of advice I ever received. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve failed at things in life. But I learned new skills and gained knowledge at a much faster rate doing so, and that has allowed me to build 2 very successful companies (one is a podcast, the other is a media agency), invest in numerous projects and find success in areas that I’m passionate about.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.
There are many great lessons in this book. But one of the most important was to never give up, because you might be just one foot away from striking gold.
