We were lucky to catch up with Brandy Selikson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brandy, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism is not just about seeing the bright side of situations but about trusting in my ability—both professionally and spiritually—to grow through challenges and emerge stronger. I believe that facing and overcoming obstacles builds confidence, resilience, and a belief in my ability to navigate difficulties. Additionally, having a strong sense of purpose and passion in my work keeps me motivated and forward-thinking. I also value the support systems around me, such as mentors, colleagues, and professional networks, which reinforce a positive outlook.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the owner of Authentic Collective, where we focus on professional organizing and estate solutions. I truly believe that when you declutter your surroundings, you create space for mental clarity and peace—and that mindset guides everything I do.
My goal is to help people through the often overwhelming process of organizing, downsizing, and dividing a household with as much clarity, structure, and confidence as possible. Every situation is unique, but my approach stays the same: offering practical strategies, compassionate support, and a clear plan to make the process smoother and less stressful.
I know that sorting through belongings, especially sentimental ones, can be an emotional journey. That’s why I provide a supportive, judgment-free space, helping clients make decisions at their own pace, without pressure. To me, decluttering isn’t just about creating a neat space—it’s about improving mental and emotional well-being. By organizing and transforming their environment, I help clients move forward feeling lighter, clearer, and more at peace.
At the heart of it all, I’m here to offer practical solutions, emotional support, and a sense of calm during life’s big transitions.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back on my journey, I’d say the three most impactful qualities have been compassion, adaptability, and strong organizational systems.
First, compassion has been essential. Decluttering and downsizing can be incredibly emotional, and it’s never just about “stuff”—there are memories, life transitions, and sometimes grief involved. Being able to listen, empathize, and provide judgment-free support helps clients feel comfortable and understood.
Second, adaptability has made a huge difference. No two situations are ever the same—some clients need a structured, step-by-step plan, while others need emotional support before they can even start. Being flexible in my approach allows me to meet people where they are and adjust based on their unique needs.
And finally, strong organizational systems are key. It’s not just about decluttering in the moment but setting up sustainable systems that make life easier in the long run. Whether it’s better storage solutions, labeling, or habit-building, having a solid foundation in organizing principles helps clients maintain the progress we make together.
For anyone just starting out, my biggest advice is to lead with empathy, stay flexible, and always keep learning. Every client and situation will teach you something new, and the more you embrace that, the more impactful your work will be!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
