Meet Brandy Stephens

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandy Stephens. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Brandy, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?

I believe my self-discipline was shaped through past experiences and struggles—both financial and emotional. Over time, I realized that growth often comes from the most challenging moments. I’ve learned to override my feelings in the moment and focus on what needs to be done, even when it’s uncomfortable.

These days, I stay grounded by keeping the bigger picture in mind. I remind myself that the choices I make today directly shape my tomorrow. When I’m faced with decisions, I think about the woman I want to become—and I try to make choices that align with her. That mindset keeps me focused, consistent, and committed to my goals.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am the owner and lead service provider at True Beauty Salon, where I’ve proudly served my community for the past nine years. At True Beauty, we’re passionate about helping every guest embrace and enjoy their natural hair through education, empowerment, and genuine care.

We truly believe that beauty professionals are capable of great things—both behind the chair and beyond it. My mission is to provide a phenomenal guest experience while also pouring into my team and helping them grow personally and professionally. I love mentoring other stylists, building confidence, and creating a salon culture rooted in excellence, education, and authenticity.

Outside of the salon, I’m also the co-creator of Journey of Us, a travel and relationship platform where my husband and I share real stories of love, growth, and adventure. Through that space, We hope to inspire others to nurture connection, embrace new experiences, and continue growing together—no matter where life leads.

At the heart of everything I do is a belief in true beauty—the kind that shines from within and uplifts others.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I’d say the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are persistence, integrity, and a commitment to personal growth.

Persistence has carried me through the seasons when things felt uncertain or progress seemed slow. There were times when giving up would’ve been easier, but I learned that consistency—showing up even when it’s hard—is what builds lasting success.

Integrity has always been my foundation. In both business and life, doing the right thing—especially when no one is watching—creates trust and respect. It’s what sustains relationships with clients, team members, and the community.

And personal development has been the key to every new level. I’ve learned that if I want to lead others well, I have to keep growing myself. That means staying open to learning, seeking mentorship, and being willing to evolve.

For anyone early in their journey, my advice is to embrace the process. Don’t rush it. Keep showing up with integrity, stay hungry for growth, and remember that persistence pays off—even when you can’t see the results right away. Every challenge is shaping you into the person you’re becoming.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was give me a strong Christian foundation. Although it felt strict at times growing up, my faith has truly carried me through every season of my life—especially the challenging ones. It taught me resilience, gratitude, and the importance of purpose.

They also made it a priority to expose us to life beyond our small town. We took road trips to places like Washington D.C., the Grand Canyon, and California, and those experiences opened my eyes to the beauty and diversity of the world. Those early travels sparked my curiosity and passion for exploring new places—something that still inspires me today through Journey of Us.
