Meet Brant Canup

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brant Canup a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Brant, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I was 10 years old, standing on my youth groups stage with a bass guitar in my hands for the first time. I plucked the string and the whole stage shook… I knew I’d found something I was going to totally love!

I started digging into my favorite 80s songs to figure out what made them sound & feel the way they do. Thousands and thousands of hours later here we are! I went from bass, to guitar, to piano, and drums! Learning everything I could from each instrument & applying it to the song my focus was on at the time!

When I discovered I could fluently translate all the pain and sorrow I was feeling onto a fretboard, or a set of keys…. nothing else mattered. I’d discovered my true purpose in life. to heal others through my melodies.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Im a believer in Jesus first and foremost. I play lead guitar in a christian rock band called TELL MY SONS! check out our music on all streaming platforms!

we strive to reach the individuals who aren’t even thinking about going to church. We bring Jesus to the rock venues, but grab everyone’s attention with our energy and heavy guitar riffs!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Some advice I have for young musicians is to be true to yourself. It’s difficult to find your crowd when you’re not being your true self.

work hard at your craft, make it an extension of yourself. whether its a guitar or a microphone or whatever your passion is, trust your gut and trust the process.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
join the TELL MY SONS family on social media!

the band and I love to collaborate with bands or solo artists who are looking to do something different!

you can also reach me on instagram @st0ney_sunday or you can email me at [email protected] for any information regarding the band!
