We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Breanna Sorensen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Breanna below.
Breanna, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
For myself, confidence and self-esteem is based on a few different factors. As a sports reporter, I’m confident when I know I have prepared for a game or tournament to the best of my ability. To deliver the information on live television in a confident manner, I have to be positive that the information that I’m delivering is indeed “facts”. This comes with over-preparing for each broadcast in order to relay information with confidence. I can prepare for one single game/broadcast for about 10 (or sometimes even more) hours leading up to the event. In a more broad, life aspect – my confidence has come with practice and repetition over time. At the beginning of my career, I would get nervous before every single interview, hit, etc – my voice would be a whole octave higher out of pure nervousness haha. To this day I still have to remind myself on a daily basis with affirmations that I have put in the time and work to come this far. Lastly, my main way that I’m confident is that I’m living in God’s plan and purpose for me. God is my overall reason for having confidence and self-esteem. He would never put me in a situation that I couldn’t handle.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important qualities that have gotten myself to where I am today are confidence, hard work, and communication. In order to be a sports reporter, it takes a lot of “putting yourself out there” to make the right connections. Confidence is key! I can’t count how many emails I’ve sent and coffee dates I’ve set up to network with other professionals in the industry. My advice to young sports reporters is to not only network and make connections, but KEEP those connections – take advantage of this era of social media!
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The book that has played a vital role in my development as not only a sports reporter, but also as a person is “Agent You” by Agent Nicole Lynn. One of my favorite nuggets from the book is knowing your values! When you’ get caught up in life it’s so important to have a list of your values and to know them inside and out. It makes decision-making so much easier.
