We recently connected with Breanna Wiley and have shared our conversation below.
Breanna, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from every challenge that tried to break me and failed. Growing up as the only girl with seven brothers, I learned early how to be strong, how to speak up, and how to fight for my place. I learned that toughness doesn’t always mean hard — sometimes it means getting up with grace when life knocks you down.
Playing ball in college taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to bounce back after losses that cut deep. Moving to Houston alone, with no family, forced me to rely on myself — to build a life from the ground up with faith, drive, and a vision that only I could see.
Now, as I work in sports while finishing my doctorate, I’ve faced moments of being overlooked and underestimated. But I’ve also learned that being overlooked doesn’t mean being unworthy — it means being prepared for a moment that’s still unfolding.
Through it all, I’ve held on to hope. Hope that my story isn’t finished yet. Hope that every setback is setting me up for something greater. My resilience comes from believing that no matter what I lose, I’ll never lose myself — and that’s what keeps me standing.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Bre Wiley — I’m a Doctor of Public Health candidate, a sports professional, and an entrepreneur. My journey bridges the worlds of health, athletics, and purpose. I’ve always believed that movement, mindset, and motivation can transform lives, and that belief drives everything I do. Through my personal training brand, I empower people to not only build stronger bodies, but stronger confidence. My product and clothing lines extend that mission — they’re not just about fitness or fashion, they’re about identity, perseverance, and lifestyle. Each piece reflects resilience, discipline, and self-expression — the same qualities that shaped my own journey.
What excites me most about my work is seeing people realize their power — that moment when they recognize they’re capable of more than they ever thought possible. Whether I’m training a client, speaking at an event, or building my brand, my goal is to create impact — to help others become the best version of themselves, inside and out.
I’m building more than businesses — I’m building a legacy rooted in health, empowerment, and purpose.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, adaptability, and purpose. Resilience came from life itself — from being the only girl with seven brothers, from taking losses on and off the court, and from stepping into spaces where I wasn’t always seen or heard. Resilience taught me that success isn’t about never falling — it’s about refusing to stay down.
Adaptability has been key in every chapter of my journey — from moving to Houston alone to balancing my work in sports while earning my doctorate. Life rarely goes as planned, but being flexible allows you to pivot without losing sight of the goal.
And purpose — that’s the heartbeat of everything I do. My work in public health, sports, and entrepreneurship is all rooted in service. Purpose is what keeps me going when motivation fades. It reminds me why I started.
My advice to anyone early in their journey is this:
Build your resilience by embracing challenges, not avoiding them. Every setback is preparing you for the next level.
Strengthen your adaptability — stay open to learning, growing, and reinventing yourself.
Find your purpose early, and let it guide your decisions. When you lead with purpose, even the hard days make sense.
Your journey won’t always look perfect — but it will always be worth it if you stay true to who you are and what you’re called to do.
