Meet Breathless aka Honey B

We recently connected with Breathless Aka Honey B and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Breathless, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
It really does feel like there are times when I strive for a bigger goal or opportunity than I’ve done before, I wonder if it’s something I should even consider myself for. Like, am I really good enough to be on THAT stage with THAT many people or do THAT song with THAT artist?  Then i start looking back over the things that I have accomplished over my decades of professional work to understand that I definitely belong in whatever room I’m looking to walk into. The more I revel in being thankful for the things I’ve already accomplished, the more new and larger doors open up for me. And the more I am grateful for all of it, the more I see and feel the expansion.  Consistently seeing myself win and enjoying all of the losses as lessons, is what keeps me reaching for that next best step.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am an emcee, songwriter and performer. I write songs for myself and for sync placements for tv, movies, etc and perform that music live. I’m an Event Curator and Project Manager and I’ve been lucky enough to throw so many cool events and manage so many impactful projects within my time so far. What I truly enjoy about what I do is the energy connection that can be created through sound between people . I can take a blank piece of paper and create a mood or a vivid picture by combining words in a specific format. Music is also universally felt, so theoretically it could be collectively and simultaneously shared with everyone on the planet.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think three important Qualities, Skills and or Areas of Knowledge that have kept me on this pathway of creating music/branding my artistry are:

1. Consistency. I continue to write, perform, release, practice, grow and learn skills to hone my craft and as long as that continues, so will my ability.  They say 10,000 hours of practicing and honing your craft helps you achieve mastery.  I definitely agree the more you immerse yourself, the more that skill will emit when you do.

2. Finding Joy in the Process. I thoroughly enjoy writing and learning new ways to make a song different, expand my writing capabilities. I LOVE to put shows together and perform and connect with the crowd, so performing never really gets old, especially because I’m ever-expanding what my shows entail. I really love what I do.  Being able to learn from mistakes and take data from folks who are also experts in their field for understanding it’s all helping get me to my next best step.

3. Continue to create, create, create…and also…know what your goal/target is with your finished product.  Know the business aspect if you are wanting to monetize, so you understand the things it will take to get there. If I wanted to make music for fun and play it for myself and my cat, it wouldn’t really matter if I copyright my songs. But if I want to put them on streaming services and for sync placements for tv/movies, there are several things I need to have in place in order for that to even be considered. Lots of research, figuring things out, making bad decisions and then learning from them so that I don’t anymore. Which also included understanding that having a team of folks with strengths and skills necessary to help guide me.

The best thing you can do is be flexible, learn as much as you can about your lane and study the people who are where you want to be. Then just keep doing it over and over and over. Then learn some more. Then do it again. Then fall down twice….and keep going again! The journey really is the reward.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Currently I’m in that position that I think many artists face when in a new city or even just starting out…and that is getting those big gigs booked. I’m doing shows and meeting people, and there’s that initial challenge of breaking into in a new level/place  to find your position and be the “go to” artist that folks look to when booking lively large events. I’ve got a great vitae, with a lot of accolades, but translating that to “book us today” isn’t always easy. Networking I have found is theeeee most beneficial thing that has helped relieve some of that issue. The more folks I get to know, and especially the more folks I get to know in those booking positions, the easier it is to know what those types of folks are looking for specifically or how to relate to them in a way that makes them want to book myself over any other band. It’s a process for sure and i look forward to the ride.
