Meet Brendan Cahalan

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brendan Cahalan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Brendan, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I feel like we all fall into this trap of comparing ourselves to others, and when we inevitably do not meet the requirements to “be” that person, we start to doubt ourselves and our confidence goes down the drown. We will never be somebody else, and not only is that okay, but it is a beautiful thing. We should always strive to be the best version of ourselves we can be, and comparing ourselves to others will only be a detriment to achieving that personal success. I fell into this trap a lot growing up and even into adulthood. I tend to get imposter syndrome in certain circumstances as well, and find myself thinking “Brendan, you’re the least talented person in this room.” But I have since learned to spin that into… “But guess what, you’re in the room baby!” All and all I think its about finding ways to love yourself and to not let your overthinking brain get in the way of that.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hello, my name is Brendan Cahalan, I am a film actor based in San Diego. I play Grant in the film Everybody Dies By The End, which is streaming now! I have been so fortunate to have worked with great friends, Ian Tripp, Ryan Schafer and many others on this awesome indie comedy mockumentary horror film. A lot of hard work, love, an fun went into the making of this movie, and it would mean the world to me if you all checked it out! It is currently free on Tubi, and streaming on a number of other platforms as well.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Positivity – It’s important to have a positive attitude. You want to be somebody that people are actually excited to work with, and if you are doing something you are passionate about, then that shouldn’t be a problem.

Collaborative – This not only applies to yourself, but also people that you are considering establishing a working relationship with. It’s important to feel that you feel comfortable sharing your ideas with your peers, as well as being able to take notes and direction from others, and to not take it personally.

Constantly be learning – No one should ever feel that that have completely mastered their craft. Even if you are objectively at the “top of your game,” you should always be looking at ways to improve at your work, and learn new things.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
I have a tendency to get in my head and tell myself that I can’t do certain things because this, or that, or whatever. This is why it is important to always have people in your corner. People who know how you operate and are able to give you that little boost to push you out of that overwhelming rut. That being said, YOU have to be the one to actually put in the work to get over this feeling, but having great people in your corner to remind you that you CAN, is a beautiful thing, and they know that you would do the same for them. I am fortunate to have so many great people in my life who have done this for me, and I am forever thankful.
