We were lucky to catch up with Brendon Hernandez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brendon, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience’s comes from my family . My grandparents on both sides are Cuban immigrants and came to this country with nothing but a dream of a better life . My grandfather Maximus Hernandez cut sugar cane in Cuba to be able to move his wife and four children to the US. While he stayed behind until they allowed him to leave communist Cuba . Watching my parents making it happen with 3 kids and providing a life for us is what gives me the faith that anything is possible if you’re willing to work for it . By all means it has not been easy but knowing all the hardship the one before me have conquered gives me strength to keep fighting and pushing forward .
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m Brendon (B) from GNB (Generation New Breed ) . This company originated from a gamer tag me and my brother shared when we use to game . My brother (Gu) in GNB or short for his nick name Pingu growing up . My brother and best friend (Sergio) record musics where we had a crazy idea to have a company that would include music ,cannabis , fashion and art . That’s when the birth of Generation New Breed came alive in 2009 . Working all fronts we have been driven to become trend setters in every aspects . With Generation New breed Genetics we are driven to provide old and new flavors to our patients . We rigorously test all product to reach our golden standard , for clean , effective healing , and to treat a variety ailments . We also keep waste and have not only sustainability in mind but also developing regenerative practices at scale . Generation New Breed Clothing Co we are in geared to providing street wear , set trends in fashion , and provide clothing for the farmer in the grow . With a huge focus on empowering the ones around me to help design and create timeless pieces . Every article of apparel made is limited drop so they are collectible . With the limited drop they are also your ticket in exclusive member only parties . Such as pheno hunting / release parties , album /music release parties and fashion collection parties .Building a real community , around the art , music , clothing and cannabis which in our opinion go hand and hand . The last branch of the company is GNB records . You can find all of the business on Instagram / Facebook / and several stores coming soon . I’ve also have been featured on Nugtalk which is on all major platforms . We are extremely blessed to be were we are at , and be able to serve the community and to continue to serve . On the genetics side all drops have sold out ,excited for the new flavors being tested and soon to be release in the future . Feel free to reach out to us we are always looking for great collaborations.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
For anyone the top 3 qualities , skills , or knowledge that has been most impactful in my journey is to stay malleable. Always be teachable and able to learn . The day you stop learning is the day you start dying . Second would be adaptability.Things don’t always go the way as planned but adapt to your environment, pivot don’t get stuck in one way . Third would be faith . Have faith in oneself , have faith and believe . If you don’t believe in yourself why would anyone would . A lot of the risk or first steps were taken in faith , don’t be afraid .
Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
I would say going in on your strengths is the way to go for me. I say for me because everyone situation is different and may not be the best for everyone . I have seen in my personal life going in on your strengths helps me focus all my energy on a task that may be easy to me and productivity/ efficiency is high . Where then I can allocate or hire out my weaknesses and that person would be way more productive and efficient in the other area . For example I believe in shopping local and empowering people in my life that may have the passion or willingness to learn . My clothing I’m able to design and hand off these projects to let’s say my friend Aaron who has strengths in finding suitable materials , quality control ,manufacturing them , helping with designs and making it come to fruition. Team work makes the dream work . So I would say double down on strengths and get great people around to support you on your weakness .
