We were lucky to catch up with Brent Honnerlaw recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brent , we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
As someone who professionally holds space for others, I have found that my own self care is of the utmost importance.
The foundation of this practice shows up for me as Yoga, Breathwork and Meditation – every single day. The length of the practice varies, but the daily consistency never does. My morning Spiritual practice qualifies me to go out into the World and helps me maintain my integrity as a teacher and guide.
Along with this daily practice, I also receive Acupuncture once a week, every week. Having this time blocked out on my schedule prioritizes my own well-being. I also receive a massage one or two times per month and spend time in nature as much as possible.
These Self Care practices have evolved over time into a beautiful way to recharge my batteries, sustain my overall health and stay connected Spiritually.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My offerings are both public and private, all over the World. My partner Natalia and I host students in the most exotic and beautiful destinations for Luxury Yoga & Meditation Retreats. We have hosted Retreats in some incredible locations including Costa Rica, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, India, Thailand, California and Sedona. Our next international offering is in Vietnam in March 2026!
While home in San Diego, I teach classes at a few local Yoga Studios and see clients privately for one-on-one and small group sessions. I specialize in Yoga Philosophy and storytelling from India, which I regularly incorporate into my classes and teachings.
Along with Yoga, Breathwork and Meditation, I am a Sound Healer as well. I guide regular public and private Sound Bath experiences to facilitate relaxation, rejuvenation and healing. I also offer a Sound Healing Immersion for those who want to dive deeper into the art and science of sound or become a Sound Healer themselves.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Self inquiry and study Read books, take courses, seek therapy and contemplate yourself. Translate the information you gain in a way that facilitates your personal growth!
2. Self Care
Take care of yourself so you can fully show up for others. If your gas tank is empty, you can’t give anyone a ride!
3. Daily Spiritual Practice
Take time every day to connect with yourself and your relationship with a higher power.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The Bhagavad Gita, translation by Eknath Easwaran.
1. Fulfill your purpose/do your work with no attachment to the fruits of your labor.
2. Selflessly serve others and the greater good
3. Unconditionally love yourself and others
