Meet Breony Jones

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Breony Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Breony, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

Great question. Artists, I cannot stress this enough: you must make the disciplined effort to be around art to fuel your creativity. I’m convinced starting from childhood we all have a God-given well of creativity to draw from. After a certain point, it’s up to you to keep the well full. Consume as much creativity as you can from others, draw from what makes your inner child happy. Want a hack to clear an overcrowded, art-blocked mind? Go be in nature; the Creator is a great source of inspiration.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m a fine artist, an illustrator, as well as a content creator under the alias The Bree’s Knees. In recent weeks, I’ve been closely documenting my progress on art projects to inspire and motivate others to do the same. My presence on the internet is shifting from the cookie-cutter, artificial influencer aesthetic to finding focus in capturing a genuine and personal journey, and encouraging introspective, purposeful art making. I think people will be able to relate and learn better this way, and I look forward to sharing my work with others through this new lens in the coming weeks.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

As soon as you can: 1. Detach yourself from whatever you do that’s mainstream and pointless. Partying, participating in online peacocking, anything that feeds this empty, egotistical side of the mind is a waste of energy. It’s like junk food; it’s empty calories. 2. Be mindful of how you spend your time. Procrastination is assuming God will even give you tomorrow to do that thing you had time to do today. 3. Don’t give energy to doubt, because you start to think you aren’t the type of person who could do anything you dreamed of. However, if you follow the first two pieces of advice, you will reap what you sow.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I would love to connect with any artists or content creators who would be interested in a community that wants to advance their art careers and have fun while doing it! Together we can explore what it takes to become top of the line in our industries while having fun along the way.

Oh, and if you so happen to be interested in commissioning me for work, don’t hesitate to reach out.
