Meet Bria Jae

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bria Jae. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Bria , thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
Somethings that help me keep going despite the haters and naysayers: 1. Knowing that they typically have good intentions (the ones in my life at least).
9 times out of 10 the things they say are fear based and realizing that fear is NOT mine, helps me disassociate from it.
2. Realizing that God put MY vision inside of ME for ME. It’s not for other people to understand. And that’s ok.
3. Realizing that hate against others comes from a lack of respect and love towards themselves. Usually the person spewing hatred is the one hurting the most. It’s not my job to make them hurt more. I just choose to stay away.
4. Lastly, realizing that we only WANT support from friends and family we don’t NEED it. Seeing how much I have been able to achieve without any feedback or support has shown me how resilient I am.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My artist name is BriaJae. I am a renaissance woman and all around creative. I produce and engineer music. I am a singer/songwriter. Creative director and photographer/videographer, a yoga instructor, etc.

I run a small home studio and have been blessed enough to help several local and non local artists bring their art to life!

One of the things that I am most excited about is an event that I started a few months ago called Safe Space. Safe Space is an artist writers camp where I invite singers, rappers, instrumentalists and producers from all over to have an intentional 12 hours of creativity and challenges. The intention is to help work the creative muscles and encourage networking and community.

I plan on doing them quarterly and eventually acquiring sponsors and opportunities to do it on a larger scale with a larger space and more attendees.

I am also excited about continuing to defeat self doubt by releasing my music and releasing perfection. I want to show the world who I am. With love.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back I think that staying true to myself, staying grounded and staying prayed up have been the three most impactful things in my journey. Some advice I’d give others would be to follow what feels RIGHT in your heart. There will be MANY people along this journey who think they know what’s best for you but knowing YOURSELF saves you a lot of confusion and anxiety.
Also solitude is your friend. We are people and we need love and community but as an artist we often go through periods of isolation where we hone in on our work. It can feel lonely but it’s so important to be comfortable with it—comfortable with yourself.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I am overwhelmed I take a few moments to feel my emotions and then I let go. I choose to stand still and not make any decisions during these moments. I have been on a journey of following the path of least resistance and when I am overwhelmed and unable to make decisions, I give it to God and let go. Yoga and meditation also have been my saving grace. Something about sitting still and finding my center in the midst of chaos is so empowering and rewarding.

I would advise EVERYONE to give yoga/meditation a try. It’s such a magical practice. I’d also advise people to be weary of what were consuming. Just opening up Instagram can be overwhelming. Social media breaks are helpful.
