We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Briahna Chuvac, Esq a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Briahna, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from my life experience, being told no, treated unfairly with the intention to make me feel less than or not enough, and even with all of that, I still come out on top. Although my personal adversity has been extremely challenging, there is plenty of evidence to disprove that I’m not enough, not smart enough, or have what it takes me be successful and accomplish my goals.
I’ve overcome teen homelessness while in high school, discrimination in the work place and accused of not working multiple times, failing out of school, losing two children, to graduating with honors, winning every scholarship I’ve applied to, co-owning my law firm which opened during the peak of the pandemic, and having a healthy 18-month old daughter who keeps me on my feet.
I still face adversity and challenges, but my resilience always kicks in because there is no plan b or safety net. I take the risk and have faith that God will pitch the net, which always happens.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a brand protection attorney, specifcally on the side of trademark registration. I support brands transition their business from a liability to an asset by registering their business name(s), logos, tag lines etc with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
This is such an exciting part of trademark practice because I get to learn about so many businesses and ideas! I love celebrating, so it’s exciting to celebrate every part of my clients journey from applying to register all the way to registration. I like to say that I practice Happy Law!
Later this year, I am expanding my practice to include business formation, contracts, and copyrights. I believe these all work together in supporting brand owners, so I’m answering my call to service in providing these new services.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
One of the most impactful qualities I acquired along this journey is developing the belief that it is ok and safe to do what I love and what is happy to do. I believed that since I experienced so much adversity in my life, that I was meant to work under adversarial conditions, and that just was not true. After some good mindset and spirit work, I accepted that I can be happy everyday and work with happy people doing happy work!
1. Be flexible in making changes and it’s ok to be scared
2. Don’t ever see your business/service/goods as small, you never know how big you’ll grow!
3. Do what makes you happy so it doesn’t feel like work, and it’s totally ok to take breaks even from what we love doing!
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal clients are business owners that have created a brand that helps their clients/customers identify their services and/or goods and they want to protect their creation! My clients range from podcasters, social media influencers, coaches to doctors and nonprofits. My clients believe in what they’re doing, see BIG, and for them true ownership is imperative.
