Meet Brian A. Victor

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brian A. Victor. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brian A. below.

Hi Brian A., thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Having good work ethic is extremely important in making a successful career for yourself. While I have always had a strong work ethic and time management skills, it wasn’t until I went to law school full-time and worked full-time that I realized just how important having these skills was.

They were plenty of times after working a long day that I had to write an essay for law, school, or listen to a lecture, or take an exam. If I didn’t make myself focus, and do the work, I would never have been successful at either my job or in law school.

It truly was continuing to focus on the big picture, which, for me, was obtaining a law degree and passing the California Bar exam that helped me push forward with my goals. There was a lot I had to sacrifice along the way, but I focused on the fact that it was going to be a short term sacrifice, in order to achieve my long-term goals.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a family law attorney and mediator. I really enjoy mediating divorce and child custody cases because it’s always refreshing when the clients can reach an agreement and settle their matter out of court. It saves them time, money, and energy to participate in mediation. I really enjoy helping couples create a parenting plan that works for their children.

I am the only family law attorney in San Diego, who worked out Family Court Services (FCS) where I mediated the most challenging child custody and visitation matters and crafted more than 4,000 child custody recommendations for Family Court judges.

I prepare parents for their FCS custody mediation session based on my firsthand knowledge of this process.

As a licensed marriage family therapist, I have been trained to understand the stress involved in divorce and the effect it can have on the spouses who are divorcing as well as on the children.

I also have a podcast called, “Divorce and Child Custody Discussion,” where I discuss current issues regarding divorce and child custody.

I am an adjunct professor for Purdue Global Law School. I enjoy teaching the next generation of attorneys and mediators.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Having good time management skills is extremely important in order to accomplish your goals. Without these skills, you will not be able to complete your goals since you will fall behind in what you are trying to achieve. 2. Perseverance is also a really important skill to have. There are going to be setbacks, but if you continue to strive forward, you can get through the setbacks.
3. Work-life balance is a huge key to success in business and in helping avoid burn out. It’s important to find something you enjoy doing outside of the work arena to help you focus on and reduce stress.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always looking to collaborate with family law attorneys, mediators and therapists because I can help them by preparing their clients for the ultra important Family Court Services (FCS) session. It is extremely important to be prepared for the FCS session and having worked there for over 11 years I can provide an important need for these professionals.
