Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brian & Brittnay Kohls. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Brian & Brittnay, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Brian and I were raised to value hard work. We learned it from our parents—their upbringing, their values, and the deeply rooted work ethic they lived by every day. Their example shaped who we are, and we genuinely believe that success grows from a foundation of hard work.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Brian has been making homemade salsa for more than 25 years. It began as something he lovingly crafted for friends and family, holiday gatherings, and heartfelt gifts. After many years working in both the private and public sectors, an opportunity finally presented itself, and Brian decided it was time to build something of his own. For decades, people had been telling him the same thing: “This salsa is incredible. You need to bottle it and sell it.” In 2024, he did exactly that.
Salsa Novo has been going strong for the last year and a half. We’re growing, learning, and genuinely excited about what the future holds. Our next big milestone is getting into grocery stores, regional chains, and restaurants. We believe our product can stand proudly alongside national salsa brands, and this isn’t just our opinion. Countless customers across the United States—and even internationally—have shared their enthusiasm and confirmed that our salsa is something special.
What began as Brian’s personal labor of love has become a shared family passion. And we’re not slowing down. We plan to release two new products in 2026, so stay tuned—there’s much more flavor on the horizon.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Brian has a strong background in business management and food service production, including everything that comes with it—regulations, rules, and the operational knowledge needed to ensure a safe and efficient process. His experience has played a major role in our success and has made the production side of our salsa journey much easier.
I, Brittnay, have a strong background in business and customer service, and I believe that customer service is one of the highest priorities when running a business. Your customers are the ones who keep you going—they are the reason you create your product. Because of that, Brian and I both believe that customer satisfaction must always come first.
We both earned our master’s degrees later in life, and combined with our professional experience, that education has helped us start this business, grow through the challenges, and navigate the complexities that come with entrepreneurship.
At the end of the day, we live by what we consider the eight most important words when starting your own business: Never give up, and don’t let anyone stop you.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Our production process has seen the biggest improvement within the last 12 months. When we first began, we had to perform a water bath to properly seal each individual jar. Since then, we’ve upgraded our packaging by switching to a new jar and transitioning from a two-piece lid to a single-piece lid. This change now allows us to hot-fill our product, cutting our production time by more than half.
