We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brian Haynes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brian below.
Hi Brian, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
The best way to persist through haters/nay-sayers is to remember why you started your journey, all the amazing steps along the way to get you to where you are today, and to take them head on. You must always understand your own personal value and never let someone else decide that for you. It’s easy to become discouraged when you are new to content creation and finally start to see some comments only to see that they are people drinking some haterade. Personally, I always turned a negative into a positive. Some of my biggest supporters through my content creation journey were haters/nay-sayers. A lot of them don’t realize, but giving your post interaction will eventually lead to the post being shown to those you really want to see it. I made some amazing friends and got to interact with great people just because of a few “mean” comments on my post. The haters unknowingly became one of my greatest supporters. I understand that all of this is easier said than done, but it’s so important to be able to overcome these obstacles. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and in many cases, their opinion will more than likely not align with your own. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this. It just means your content isn’t for them.
It’s so important to take care of your mental health and constantly reevaluate where you are mentally every single day. Content creation can be a brutal place. You’re putting your entire person out there at all times for the world to see. It can be a surprisingly vulnerable experience. Be sure to surround yourself with people who truly have your best interests at heart and care about you as much as you care about yourself.
All in all, don’t be afraid of haters/naysayers. They will ALWAYS exist. Instead, turn them into a positive for your own interests and a way to continuously learn and grown.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Currently, I’ve taken a small step back from content creation to focus more on me and my family. My wonderful wife and I had our first child (a daughter) about 8 months ago and we’ve been soaking it all in. I still really enjoy making content when I can and trying to help newer content creators get established. I also enjoy teaching other content creators through my personal experiences. Of course, everyone’s experiences are different, but there’s always so much to learn. My brand always focused on making someone else’s day a little better. I wanted people to see my content and live streams and leave them feeling a little better. I put an emphasis on mental health and not being afraid to be open about how you’re feeling. It was important to show other’s that they are not alone in the world and there is always someone out there who is willing to reach out a helping hand no matter how big or small.
I was very lucky in my endeavors to achieve Facebook Gaming Partnership, reach over 20,000 followers on Tiktok, 6,500 followers on Twitch, and a small YT following. My favorite part of all of content creation, though, was continuously seeing familiar faces in my chat/comment section. I felt blessed to have made such a deep connection with such amazing people. People who I would never have met without the help of content creation. I hope I was able to enrich their lives as they did mine.
Something I’m proud of is that the community was able to raise a good sum of money for varying charity organizations as well. We raised over $5,000 for several different charities. The main one being NAMI and several charities to help those who have undergone cancer treatments.
Overall, the absolute best part of this whole journey has been the connections made. I hope that I was able to make other’s day/lives a little better and bring some people together. That has always been the dream/goal of the brand. To let others know that we’re in this thing called life together.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The number one skill for content creation is the ability to be flexible. Everything on the internet changes in a matter of seconds. It’s so important to be able to transition into what is required of content next. The second skill is self reflection. Being able to point out where you may be falling short is so important. It’s never an easy task, but will help you grow so much in the long run.
Last is editing. Being a good editor is important for so many reasons in content creation. You have to be able to cater your product to the desired audience in the best way possible. There’s always so much to learn in editing and it will help you grow substantially.
I’d recommend that anyone new dives right into the area that they want and soaks up as much info as possible. You don’t have to put out a million and one posts. Just learn a little every day and use that knowledge in your own way.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The number one obstacle for me (as it is for many) is simply time. There’s not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything you would like to. I made sure to properly prioritize my time/life because they’re so important. That’s why, for me, family always comes first. I’m trying to be the best Father and Husband I can be every day. This has put a lot of content creation on the back burner for now, but I still try to learn about new editiing techniques and how to make higher quality of content when possible.
