We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brian McFarland a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
1) experiencing both my parents working so hard and diligently without complaint for 50+ years. They earned every penny they made and always gave it their all
2) starting to work part time then full time from the age of 13, especially in the food service arena. Got a NY Daily News paper route, had to get out to deliver by 6a, every day no matter what, and I both grew the route exponentially, made good money for a kid and always just popped out of bed ready to go
3) progressing through life, worked all kinds of shift in bars (dishwasher), restaurants (waiter/busboy/pot scrubber), and then have been a cycling instructor for 22+ years and. counting.
4) must mention the inspiration of Robin Sharma’s ‘5am Club’ book. Huge impact on me in the last 2 years.
5) this resilience applies in every area, from Digital Ad Sales/prospecting is relentless, Cycling, to many people’s wants and needs, boyfriend/soulmate always looking to advance my overall wellness, effectiveness, caring, compassion and love for my beloved

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
The last page has all the info about me, so cool there. I can talk about my podcast, Owning the Goal, and ability to market myself both in/outside of my full time career.
I started an initial podcast with my soulmate, The Turnaround Artists as we had both experienced together big turnarounds, and wound up doing almost 20 episodes in total, bringing on a variety of guests.
From that, I developed a solo show with both interviews/conversations with guests, as well as solo episodes where I focus on some experiences and the subsequent learnings from those endeavors.
Starting to write a book, gain speaking engagements and restart my Cycling career.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1) work ethic/hustle
2) street smarts to succeed in all areas of life
3) passion for learning, experiencing and growing to be the best version of myself possible

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
